Default MGW standard shaft thread size & '08 chrome ring

All,

I've done a search but couldn't find the shift **** thread size for the standard MGW shaft. Is it the same as the C5?...9/16-18?

Secondly, anyone have pics of their '08 install and how they dealt with the PITA chrome ring? Any and all **** pics would be great.

Not sure what your issue is with the chrome ring. If you are going to use a threaded ball ****, then you are going to have to leave the chrome ring off. Just pull it out of the boot. To get it off the stock **** when taking the shifter out, just push up on the chrome ring, rotate counter clockwise and push down. Remove the screw in the drivers side of the stock **** and pull the **** straight up.

The problem is that when I separated the ring from the boot on my prior **** install an o-ring popped of the end of the boot out leaving a frayed crappy looking end of the boot. I had to go buy a larger O.D. o-ring as the one that popped out was WAY to small to put back together by hand, i.e. wrap the boot back around/over the o-ring. The boot end is wrapped around the oring then sort of snapped into a groove around the ring. Bottom line, if I remove the ring the top end of the boot looks like someone cut it with scissors and it had a much larger O.D. than any shifter shafter so it will just sag/fall down and look like poop.

It appears that the ring works with George's gripper **** from the pic he showed but I don't want to be restricted to that **** only.....and the stock **** is crap in my opinion.

I guess the only known option at this point is to get his stock shaft and re-use my Hurst ball **** that I currently have that does work with the chrome ring.

Maybe it was just me but I would thing twice about pulling the chrome ring off of the boot or you may regret it......at least I did as I had to rig it to put it back together.

Below are two pics showing the location of the dreaded o-ring if anyone is interested.

So Ed's Hurst shift **** is compatible with the 08 chrome ring? It has provision to lock the cam on the 08 chrome ring?

I just left the ring on and screwed the mgw shifter ball onto their shifter until it was snug with the chrome ring, on my 08 ls3.

It works but you have to snip the tabs a little that normally twist into the groove on the stock ****. I was able to snip them enough until there was enough friction to slide it up and hold the boot up.

Not at all I got it snug then gave it another half turn to align the shift pattern on the ball and tighten the grub screw.
