They're pretty simple to install, maybe a bit intimidating if you're working on your C6 for the first time but they are easy to install. There have been several write-ups posted on the forum, look for them for helpful tips. I just installed my Kooks a couple weeks ago, one thing I can recommend is not tighten the header bolts before connecting the X-pipe - a little play will allow you to connect everything easier.
With some mechanical knowledge it is not very hard. If you're not completely sure see if you can find someone who can supervise or maybe help "as needed"!
They do bolt right up and not much has to be taken off to get them in, although a lift would be a big bonus.
Thanks guys I think I can handle it. how long did it take??
did you do just headers or the whole 9 yards??
I did most of the install myself, I did get some help when it was time to align and connect the exhaust after the engine but I seem to remember I did it in about six hours.
Make sure you get the car high enough above ground to be able to work, I used Rhino ramps up front and had little trouble getting the headers in. I wish I had gotten the rear of my car up higher, I thought the existing flowmasters were welded in so I started cutting the H-pipe out with a sawzall - I had too little room to work under there. Once I cut the pipe out the piece just slid off the muffler pipe
My complete install consisted of the headers, x-pipe with cats, and the tunnel plate, figured I might as well as long as I was under there.
They go in from the bottom; I looked at putting them in from the top but there was no way that was going to happen. If you get the front end in the air at least 16 inches or so you'll have little problem getting them in. I was going to notch the gasket so I could start a couple header bolts then slide in the gasket, but the headers are light and easy enough to manipulate so I didn't have to notch the gasket.
Braciole,
Header install on C6 is fairly easy. The trick is getting the car up in the air fairly high. If you have figured out how to jack your car and support it with jack stands, the rest is easy. We recently did a C6 header install with a set of American Racing headers and it took just over two hours with an X pipe installed also. Oh, you will also need an O2 sensor socket.
Is it me or is anyone sick to there stomachs with the prices of the mods on these cars???? Havent been to the Track in 10 years or better.
Its amazing how things change!!!!
