just put on a cai on my c6 zo6. engine light came on with hard acceleration. took it to the dealer, they puller code p0175 out of it and reset the computer. I havent jumped on it yet because the manufacture of the unit said it takes a few hundard miles for the computer to adjust to increased air flow......has anyone else had this problem with these cold air intake installations ?
I havent heard that one. I thought if anything it would make it go lean unless your computer is overcompensating and throwing too much fuel. I am sure someone will chime in.
I am thinking this will take a mild tune. The computer compensating happens under closed loop conditions which are conditions of normal driving and idling (called long term fuel trends). Punching it takes it into a different programming where the LTFT's are irrelevant. I would be interested to hear what others with more experience have to say. Could be coincidence that it came on when you punched it but it came on because of the period of time just prior to punching it.
guys, thanks for imput, the dealer did say when they looked at cai that they said there was too much oil on the air cleaner element. when I installed it, it looked fine........was he just stroaking me or could the engine be spitting up some oil and getting it on the air cleaner thus causing a so called rich condition from blocking air flow. I havent driven the car for a while but when I do i'll have to check this out if the light comes on again.
Now that's a little different. The too much oil thing is a problem because the oil can get sucked onto the Mass Air Flow sensor element. That could throw off the inbound air reading which is used to tell the computer how much fuel it should be adding compared to the amount of air coming in. If the reading is incorrect due to oil on the element, that may be what is going on.
if that oil is comming from the motor or intake area, what would be the cause. The car is still under warrenty so I guess no big deal but i'ed like to know the cause.
The air filters are soaked in oil. It's how they work (not motor oil, air filter oil). that is what they are saying there is too much of so when you are getting on it, that 'too much oil' is being sucked across the MAF element. Because it now has a layer of oil on it, it is unable to send the proper calculations to the ECU which is dependent upon accurate number to know how much fuel to mix for the proper burn mixture. This is all theory but based on what you have stated, I'd say pretty close to what is going on.
