I searched and I searched for a thread that I saw about GY warranty. Also tried tires section. I have a 5 month old car, took a nail in the GY EMT, had it plugged to get back on the road, wanted to get it patched, THEN recalled a series of posts about the "replacement" policy. GY dealer sorta chuckled and said no way, not unless it is 100% defect from the factory. Searched my papers and can't find any GY warranty paperwork. Called my service writer, nice guy and usually very helpful, and he said no way. What? Where oh where did I see the info and what can I say/do/take to the GY guy to back me up. I searched the GY site and find NOTHING about warranty. HELP!!??
Their should be a GY warranty pamphlet with your owners manual and other paper work you got with the new Corvette. If the tire cannot be repaired in the first year they will replace it. In addition they will pay for the patch job. There is an 800 number is the pamphlet to call. They will reimburse you if you send them the receipt.
Thanks Tony.
As I read the thread I gotta ask, where does it say replace? It does say that if it cannot be repaired they will replace it. Then it says if the puncture can be repaired that they will do it for free, including mount and balance. It goes on to say that the speed rating reverts to normal highway speeds. But I know this can be plugged so there will be no replacement, I presume. According to the above thread. I did print it to at least get the patch/plug for free. I hope!
I, too, was sure that someone posted here that they WERE absolutely sure that the tire would be replaced. Sure doesn't look that way to me. I also wish that I had the original warranty papers from GY. Seems my dealer may have misplaced them as he did my 2nd fob. &^%#?!&%
OK, here ya go. Went to the GY dealer and got the tire patched for free. They found ANOTHER nail it it that had punctured the tire through the carcass. Patched for free at the same time. Balanced free also. They measured the tread depth and it was 9/32. Came home and there was a message from GY corporate to call them. GY says that GM buys a road hazard warranty with all of the EMT tires that they install so GM will replace the tire for free. BUT, she said, GM has been real ***** about doing that. ???? AND these tires won't go back into production until JUNE!!! So tomorrow I go in for a different issue ( the window trim peeling ) and we'll start the fight for the tire. AND continue the fight on the drivers seat bolster issue.
I'm off GY for life. 5k miles, denied warranty on sidewall bubbles.
If anything, I hit a typical pothole. Except for some spirited driving on the open road, the car is babied around town. Never curbed it, never ran over anything. Went with BFGs and couldn't be happier.
Went to the Chebby dealer today, service mgr denied it, took it over his head on his own, they denied it. So he and I called GY corporate together and they said they NEVER said that they or GM would replace the tire with 2 punctures. That makes it a T rated tire BTW! So I talked to them before he hung up and explained that there was no way I could make up those details and then told them the name of the lady I talked to. Of course she's not available. So the lady from today said she'd approve it. File # to pass on to the GY dealer. She even asked me if I wanted Chebby or GY to do the mounting. GY dealer checked on that file # and they told him I complained that it still leaks. Where did that come from? I called GY again, gave the lady a nice full earful, still being polite, and she checked with the 1st lady from today, no notes about leaking, nor any about the replacement! Jeeeez!! So they went to a supervisor there and they called the GY dealer and it is now official, new tire in June (they hope).
If indeed there is supposed to be a replacement, I guess they try to wear you down to the point that you give up. ???
I picked up a nail at the very edge of the tread block. Needless to say I was very unhappy, since my car had less then 2k miles. Then I checked the Goodyear pamphlet that came with the car. It clearly states that the tire would be replaced at no charge under certain conditions. The tire had to be unrepairable, have less then 2/32 tire wear, under 1 yr old. I even called Goodyear and verified what was written.
All I can say is my local dealer, Hendrick Chevy in Cary, NC, has been great. I was out in an hour with a new tire on the car.
Well, sounds like you were very lucky to get it done so easily. My fight was because GY and GM both said that the other one was responsible. THEN they both said I (ME!!) had never bought the warranty for the tires. I then said I never had the chance because they were on the car when I bought it new. GY then said that GM buys the warranty when they buy those tires, in bulk, for the production line, so GM had to cover it. GM said no way, etc etc etc. Until I finally stayed firm, yet POLITE, and said that someone needed to step up. Sounds like it worked, but no tires available yet.
GOOD LUCK to anyone else that needs a tire replaced under "warranty"!
GY replaced a tire free for me on my 05 silver coupe when I picked up a screw that punctured the tire. A local GY-certified repair shop fixed the puncture, but said it was so close to the sidewall that it might not hold.
When it didn't, I had to call the nearest GY dealer 45 miles away and have him order me a tire. When he got the tire, I drove the car, with the flat, at 50 mph for 45 miles to the dealer. GY replaced it completely free of charge, since the amount of tread left and the age of the car were within the guarantee.
Fortunately for me, my tire had only one puncture. Hope the double puncture doesn't keep GY from doing the right thing for you.
