Default Problem with brake/rotor?

Hey guys, I thought I'd post this here before taking my car to the dealer. Ok, when I got the car, it had rust on the rotors from sitting and now that I've been driving it for a few days, I noticed that the brakes have rubbed the rust off mostly (as expected), but there's a stripe of rust that isn't rubbing off on the right front rotor. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there a problem with that pad or caliper?

maybe the pads were changed without changing the rotors at some point? You could try bedding them in real good and see if that helps. 10 quick stops from 50-10mph, cool for 15 minutes then 10 more and see if that helps.

For a new car this looks like a defective pad. I'll bet the back side of the rotor is fine.

Thanks guys. I'll take it in and have them check it out and replace the pad. I guess I'm lucky there was a little surface rust on there, or I wouldn't have even noticed it

not true . You will notice every little burp your car makes that is not normal. It's crazy what these cars can do to us.

...and Ausie vette owners get that stripe of rust going the other way.

Update. The outside brake pads on both fronts were crumbling apart! My dealer replaced all the front pads and turned the rotors a hair to clean them up. I'll probably take it back soon to let them check the back pads just to be safe. Must have been a bad batch of pads

Default Brake bedding prodecure

Here's a great piece on "how to" do a proper brake bedding job...

It's a pretty good page to 'bookmark' for future reference!
