"Smoothing" allows the chart to show more or less detail in the lines on the graph. You'll notice some dyno sheets show more little "spikes" during the run. For Ex, a Dynojet with a smoothing scale from 0 to 5, with 0 showing the most detail of what is actually happening during the pull, 5 would be a much smoother line, and therefor more "readable".

DynoJet can gain as much as 8 peak HP by using smoothing "0" compared to smoothing "5". Ask the dyno operator to print both. If it's a cold day, low elevation and high pressure ask for uncorrected smoothing "0" to see a high number.
