On dyno's, what does smoothing mean?

Safety Car
"Smoothing" allows the chart to show more or less detail in the lines on the graph. You'll notice some dyno sheets show more little "spikes" during the run. For Ex, a Dynojet with a smoothing scale from 0 to 5, with 0 showing the most detail of what is actually happening during the pull, 5 would be a much smoother line, and therefor more "readable".

DynoJet can gain as much as 8 peak HP by using smoothing "0" compared to smoothing "5". Ask the dyno operator to print both. If it's a cold day, low elevation and high pressure ask for uncorrected smoothing "0" to see a high number.
