Default Mgw Shifter.....wow.....

Just took the first drive with the new 30% MGW shifter. All I can say is HOLY SH***T. The shifter provides precise, short throws. I just wanted to stay around town just so I could shift..
I did have **** rattle above 4500rpms, using the stock ****. A 1/2" x 3/4" piece of foam rammed into the **** cavity, topped with RTV, (about a 1" drop from the supplied RTV tube) took care of that.
Thanks to all forum members for advice, and thanks to George for designing/manufacturing a great part.
The car should come from GM like this.

That **** rattle above is enough to make me wait until it gets sorted out.

I don't have any rattle at all and didn't do anything at all except install by the directions.

Every time I run through the gears with my MGW, I say a little prayer of thanks to George! So much more fun than the OEM "push and slush" shifter. Maybe we should form a sub-forum group of MGW shift converts!

Don't let that stop you. Most don't have the rattle, I am usually the "Lucky" guy that has the 1 in a 1000 issue. Plus the rattle is only with the stock ****, and the foam/rtv seems like a fix. Running through the gears is now a blast, and the 2-3 shift miss is a thing of the past.

I don't think George is working on anything to address the rattle issue as it only happens with the stock ****. He already offers a threaded **** that does not rattle. After about a month of use, mine no longer rattles with the stock ****. Several have commented that they never experienced any rattle with the stock ****.

Love mine too!!!, As far as the rattle, I've never had it show up either. I have the stock **** , did put some rtv in the **** on install. Originally installed a "hurst" type ball on it, no rattle there either. Great shifter..

I also have the new MGW in my 07 Z, it rattles as well under hard acceleration going through the gears from 1st thru 3rd. Otherwise its probabably the best built shifter out there, the BM shifter doesn't even come close to how well the MGW is built.

Tom, Pretty sure the foam/rtv trick will fix the problem. I sent you a piece of the acoustical foam. You can see where I cut my piece out, it was more like 3/4" wide x 2" long. I didn't let the rtv dry, just slapped it on and went for a test drive. No rattle, anywhere..
You might need to use a larger piece with that Z, 550hp to the wheels..
