A friend of mine won one of these. It was one of the first ones filmed at Firebird. He walked up to a person that looked like they knew what they were doing and asked if he could be on the show. Turned out to be the producer and the producer said "sure."
He was getting stumped until the last few races and then took them both and won $2000. The first car was a 2007 C6 A6. My friend was at the track with me when my 06 A6 ran a few 12.03's. So he guessed 13 flat for the guy (if I remember right) and the guy ran 14 flat. I wondered what was wrong until my friend told me that the timing lights were not working, so they started them with a flag and used a guy with a stop watch at the finish line. Problem with this is you have to add the reaction time, plus the normal inaccuracies of punching the stop watch at the right points.
