Default Question about water temp

I just bought my first vette about a month ago. This morning, it was about 60 degrees out. In traffic, my water temp hit 217 degrees. I was actually stopped when i noticed it. My oil was about the same. This seems hot to me, but I'm not sure what these cars should run. I'm going to check my fan later, but i dont think that is an issue. The car has 35k on it, and the previous owner changed the antifreeze at 22k. Any advise to this issue would be helpful.
Thanks

The stock thermostat is around 192 degrees. Was the fan on? My vette has gone north of 215 but only when I am stopped. The fan comes on and lowers the temp immediately. Why did the previous owner change the coolant? It is designed to last 100K miles. Possibly there was/is a problem with the cooling system.

Normally, my 08 runs around 197 degrees. When I hit stop and go traffic, the temp can go up to 215. On hot days in stop and go traffic, the temps will range 197 - 225. At 225 the fans kick in and the temp drops back down. This seams to be the norm for the stock 08 vettes.

Thanks....its hard to even see the fan in there...
And 217 shouldn't be a problem when sitting in traffic...if you were going 80mph on a 60 degree day, it might be too high.

Yes it is. That is why many are putting the 160 therm. Helps keep temps lower.

Normal. Even an little on the cool side for summer temps, you need to push it harder.

The 160 thermostat will not prevent the engine temp from rising to 217degrees. The fan controls how hot the engine gets. The thermostat controls the minimum (cooler) temperature the engine will run.

The 160 might keep your engine slightly cooler, but only for a short period of time.

Yes, so that the engine stays cooler. It will help the fans kick-in.

My 08 on the stock thermostat ran a consistent 200-205 on the highway and would get up to 210-215 in stop and go traffic. With the 160 thermostat, she ran consisten high 170's while moving and the fans were programmed to keep her from getting above 205 degree in stop and go. Now with the pulley, my water pump spins slower, so she runs low 180's while moving and gets up to 205 - 210 in stop and go.
