We just recently installed Textralia OZ700 X-Grip clutch to my friends C5 and the problem is that it shakes pretty badly when you try to slip the clutch when backing up or parking the car.
This is the X-Grip version that was supposed to be very street able.
The clutch has less than 100 miles on it, so is there hope that it will get better by putting more miles on it or what could be wrong with it ?

Starting off in 2nd gear will help it seat a little faster. It should come around. I have the Z Grip and am very happy with the street manners.

I heard the same thing. It will chatter for the first couple hundred miles. Once it is broken in and you romp on it a few good times it will be like a baby!

In my opinion NO! it woun't. There's nothing wrong with it. When I had a new 427 put in my 05 C6 in went the Textralia x-grip. My tunner said it will work fine. Yea if it's not a daily driver. I needed a four car gap in traffic just to slip the clutch at higher R's so as not to chatter my eye teeth out of my head. It was a pain in the ***. 4000 miles later It was chattering just like the first day. It doesn't get any better. So my tuner did the right thing and changed it out for a balanced LS7 unit. Happy days are here again. It's the metal pucks on the disc and they don't change. What I would have like to have done was changed just the dics and left the pressure plate and flywheel. They seem to be fine. I will say I have had Zero problems with the LS7 unit as a daily driver and it's behind 525rwhp/500rwtq. It's a street car and will never see a track.

Go beat the crap out of it Get 400ish miles on it to break it in, then go drive it hard. My buddy Joe C has a Tex in his supercharged FRC C5. Same issues... a good bit of chatter for the first few hundred miles, then hard driving, now perfect.
I'm getting pretty mixed feedback if the chatter will go a way or if it will stay. I guess only time will tell. Or could it be so that some of these Tex clutches just have problems ?
My other friend has a same Tex x-grip in his supercharged C5Z and just today he confirmed to me that he does not have any chattering problems. All tough he got his used (from Andy @ A&A) so somebody has already taken care of the brake in period...
Anyhow we going to drive this for some time and see if it gets better. I will let you know how it goes!
If worst comes to worse, what is the max. power LS7 unit can safely take in street use ?

It might have been mine he got, because Andy took one out of my car.
Max power?? Like I said my motor is making 525rwhp/500rwtq and no slipping. Although I don't beat it. Clutches?, they live as long as the abuse there subjected to which is all relative. Street vs track. I'm sure there are LS7 units out there with more power than mine. I've had LS type cars since 1999, and I've used Texteralia, McLouds, Luk gold series, center force and Spec units, never liked anyone of them. My best luck has always been stock unit for the street. You know it's not the clutches so much that make these units stick to the floor or get spongy etc. It's the activitating mechanism that GM designed that's poor. My 67-427 vette and 69-427 COPO camaro had machanical mechanisms and I power shifted those m-22 rocker crusher trannies at 6500rpms never taking my foot off the gas and they never missed a beat, clutch or trannie. There's something to be said for that. I know there's a difference between the M-22's and the T56, external fork shifting vs internal rail. Yet the clutches never failed to operate. Maybe one day they'll figure it out. Until then we make do with what we have.
