The oil we run is 12 microns thick, the oil filter media will only let 5 microns through it.
It's a math riddle---------NOT!
The filter media only attracts dirt from the oil, the oil doesn't actually pass through the filter media it flows by it and then goes through the bypass in the bottom without as much as even a screen in it's path.
Synthetic oils don't break down, so the weak link is the filter.
GM engineering recommends that if you track your car, you should change your oil after the event. Also recommends that you change your diff. fluid and trans oil after 10-12 hours of track use.
For me that $4.00 filter is cheap charlie insurance, or you can go by the DIC and let all that sheered metal particles run through your engine.
That's exactly why I use a cleanable oil filter like the GoPurePower filter. ALL the oil goes through the filter and not over it. Oil is totally filtered all the time. They use a super fine stainless steel mesh with magnets attached to trap ALL damaging particles. You simply take it appart (easy) and clean it out and reinstall it. Oil stays clean all the time.
I've got copies of all 4 years of C6s on my computer hard drive. Please tell me the page number and what year owner's manual says to change the oil at 500 miles and again at 1500 miles.
If you have one that says that, you've got a manual with a misprint.
Many of us change ours when the DIC says to, and many of us get 8K miles between oil changes. But you use whatever schedule makes you happy.
my bad, i think it was my dealer who told me to change it when i first hit 500 miles and than when i hit 1500 miles. after that every 4000 miles. sorry for saying it was in the manual. my bad.
As others have said, it's not the oil that concerns me, it's the oil filter. I use the M-1 206 it's an inch longer than the standard filter. Still, it's about the size of your fist. So how much can it really hold? Not as much dirt as we would like. To me that's the weak link. So I error on the side of caution, and change it at 3000 miles. I've got a forged 427 in my 05 C6 $14,000 turn key. That's a lot of money to me, and I use 15-50 mobil -1 + the filter is about $55 an oil change. To me that's not much money for 3000 miles of driving. Don't care what the DIC says. Remember, there's not oil anaylsis going on during your oil intervals. The DIC doesn't know what type of driving you're doing or in what type of conditions your in. It's just a relative numbered % thats all.
The only times the DIC can not be trusted is when a cheap oil filter is used or dino oil is used or a synthetic blend oil is used. Otherwise just go with it and save a few dollars for a late or two.
I drive the car 60 miles per day at 75 - 80 MPH (which is good), and change the oil at 5k (because it is easy to remember). With full synthetic this is a little overkill, but compared to 5000 miles worth of gasoline, an oil change is dirt cheap. I also run 15w50 in the summer, 0w40 in winter.

Too bad everyone missed that memo.
Is that a different company than Pure Power. Mine's had a cleanable stainless steel filter, but no magnets.
PM me with details, please.
