Need instructions to remove base seat covers
I have no experience with doing any kind of upholstery work, but didn't find it hard to do. I'll try and take some pictures later, but I think if you just take out your seats take a look at them that you'll see where to start and how to do it.
Are you just going to take them off? If that's all you're doing then it's not a hard job at all.
If you're going to put them on some other seats, or put some new skins on, then it's a little more difficult getting some of the hog-rings refastened.
Good luck with your project, but very simple if all you're doing is taking them off.

However, I would only reccomend taking it out if you have unbolted the seat and have it on a bench. Otherwise, you will run into trouble

First of all - PULL THE AIRBAG CIRCUIT BREAKER for at least about 10 minutes before disconnecting any of the plugs. Even if you don't have side airbags you'll have the seat belt pre-tensioners that my fire if you disconnect plugs with power in the system.
There are 3 covers for 3 sections of the seat: 1. the bottom cushion; 2. the center back rest cushion; and, 3. the piece that covers the headrest, side bolsters (and airbag, if installed), and the back of the seat.
To remove the seat, first remove these plastic covers that are over the 2 front bolts that hold the seat in the car (the rear bolts/nuts don't have any covers). Just pop the center of the pin out with a screwdriver and pull out the pin, then slide the cover forward to release it a take it out (click the thumbnails for larger pictures).
I don't know what your trim level is, but if you have full power seats you'll need to unhook the large terminal connector under the front of the car. After unbolting the four nuts that hold the seat to the floor, you can lift up the seat to get under there to unhook the plugs - I stuck a short chunk of board under the seat rails to hold it up while unhooking things.
The airbag/seat belt pre-tensioner connector is the yellow one in the rear.
Unbolt the seat belt from the side of the seat, and I think all the passenger side seat belts have a plug to disconnect.
Then you can remove the seat. If it's full power it's about 50 pounds. I put an old bathroom rug over the door sill to protect it while taking the seat out.
If the "insert" you mentioned is the center cushion, and that's all you're replacing, then you'll have a very simple job.
First, on the back of the seat, unzip the zippers that go up the side of the back. If you're only taking out the center back rest cushion you'll only need to upzip them a few inches. If you're taking off all three of the seat covers, unzip them all the way.
Pop out the 2 fasteners in the picture below that are at the bottom of the seat back (just get a screwdriver under them to start them up, then I used a pair of needle nose pliers to finish pulling them out - they're stubborn, but just soft plastic, so pull hard and they'll come out). If you have heated seats you'll need to disconnect the wire that goes up into the seat back cushion.
Stand behind the seat and reach over and work your fingers into the crack between the bolsters and the center back rest cushion. Grab ahold of the center back rest cushion and pull it up to pop it loose from the seat back. Take a look at the picture below and you can see that there are 2 metal loops attached to the cushion and they clip into 2 plastic fasteners that are secured to the seat back. When you've got a good hold on the cushion, a quick/sharp jerk upward will pop the metal loops out of the plastic pieces (at least they popped out easily for me!).

If that's the "insert" you're replacing I think the above will completely remove it and you can take off the old cover and put on the new one and reinstall it.
I used my Z06 bottom seat cover and the piece over the headrest and bolsters, so I recovered the full power seats with those pieces. But, the center back rest cushion was ebony on my Z06 and the full power seats, and they are exactly the same, so I didn't have to take those covers off.
However, it looks like it should be very simple - it appears that there is a velcro strip down the center and that should come loose and then the whole cover should be able to be removed. If that's all you're doing, just reverse the above and reinstall your seat back into your car.
I'm going to stop here, assuming that's all you need to do. If you're replacing the bottom seat cushion cover and the headrest/side bolster/seat back cover, let me know and I'll post some more pics and thoughts on doing those other 2 pieces.

Feel free to add/change anything I said in my post.
I agree that you really need to have the seat out of the car to do this. You could do it in the car by sliding the seat forward so you access those button fasteners. If it's a heated seat, you'd have a harder time trying to find and disconnect the wire up to the "insert". It's just a lot easier to work on with the seat out of the car.
