hey people iam having a few issues with my 07 C6, i just took it and got a Mcleod twin disc installed and havent had the car for more than five days and my service charging system light came on. also when this is happening
my battery guage fluctuates under 13 volts then goes back up to normal. if anyone has any ideas what this could be please let me know, thank you.
It happened to me, and finally the regulator stuck open and boiled my battery. Had acid everywhere. My seggustion is don't wait, Get a new alternator now. There's no quick fix, but to replace it. This problem will hang around for a while back and forth and then without notice it will go. I had to replace my battery and alternator. BTW there's no rebuilts, only new ones. Mine happened last year and it was dealer only part. No auto zone , pep boys etc. Could be different now. List price was, $750. I get jobbrer price which was $285. $50 rebuilt alternators don't exhist any more
check the relays in the underhood fuse block to be sure they are all fully seated had a customer get headers installed and someone must of leaned on the fuse box and knocked a elay out and had the service charging system message on
My alternator went out on me at 1800 miles on the car. The symptoms I had were the "Service Charging System" on the DIC and a fluctuating voltage, however, mine would fluctuate high and low (mostly high as this registered on my radar dector but the low would not). I asked others at the time via another corvette forum who had the same issue and it seemed like this was isolated to the 2007 models built around Sept-Nov 2006 (This was almost a year ago and not a very scientific poll but there may be a quality control issue during that time). Mine happened almost immediately after washing my engine one day. It was covered under warranty. I have been told that there is a TPS on the alternator. They have a plastic fan inside that will flex with a drastic rpm shift and rub the windings. They contribute this problem to hitting the rev limiter which sounds like some execs way of placing the blame on the consumer. This sounds like a BS story to me since the problem wouldn't be intermittant that is why I started asking people their build dates. I think there is a QC problem with the components they sourced for the VR. I further asked those who had their alternators replaced and it appeared that it was a one time deal. In other words, those who had the problem were mostly less than 10K on their cars but have logged 10-20K since the replacement. I might be typing too much here but it might be useful for you.
