Default water temp: 402 stroker vs LS2?

I replaced my supercharged LS2 with a forged 402 stroker that is supercharged. What I've noticed is with the LS2 the water temp remained between 190-206. With the 402, the water temp is between 207-220.

My question: is this OK?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, congrats on getting the car back. I had the same issue...kind of. The 402/corvette cooling system is very sensitive to heat/air pockets. It probably has an air bubble in the system some where. Mine ran like that as well. Here is what I did.

1. added 1 bottle of water wetter from redline. Picked it up from autozone.

2. waited for the car to fully cool off, added the watter wetter to the coolant resivoir and left the cap off. started the car, and waited for it to come to full operating temp. You may see some bubbles through the camp, you may not. The cap if offset to the firewall side of the resivoir so some times there are bubbles but you just can't see them.

After the car was at full operating temp, hold the revs to about 2000 rpms for a minute or two. Again trying to build some heat up in the system.

I did this whole process twice, and now my system is at 185ish on the highway cruising speeds and 190-192 in the city. It never goes above that because the fans come on at 192 ususally. Occasionally with the a/c on in 95* temps I've seen it go to 194ish but it comes right back down.

I don't know if the blower on the car hurts the fact it may run a bit hotter, but try this first bud.

Good luck Jeff!

Dougie

Dougie

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try and see what happens. I'll also check with Roger at HPS to see what temp they set to have my fans come on.

Mine ran just a tad hotter but I bumped compression.

More HP makes more heat, thermal dynamics. I dont think that little spike is harmful.

Default temp update

FYI, took a trip to visit my father in Adventura, about 36 miles each way.

Going there: W/O the AC on---on the highway-208, on Biscayne Blvd--219

Coming back: with AC on--- on Biscayne Blvd-221, on the highway-212

These temps seem normal....................

Questions: 1. What temp should the fan be set to come on?
2. I had a 160 on the old block. Would that make any difference if the new block has the OEM thermostat in it?

Jeff, I would try Dougies "remedy" first and see where you're at.

What you may find is that while the engine is breaking in, it may run a bit warmer both water/oil temp due to excessive friction from ring sealing etc.....

More importantly, how does the new "stroke" feel?

The difference between the 402 and the 364 is amazing. I'm still breaking it in and haven't pushed the engine past 4k rpm, but the response is great, can't want to get it tuned and see what it will do.

Isn't it great? I love my 402 and mine is only N/A...I cannot even imagine having a blower on it!

Take car Jeff!

Under normanal driving conditions mine usually stays around 185 to 195. Stop and go on a hot day, with a/c it may get to about 210.

Jeff,
Glad to hear you have your Vette out of Roger's shop. Now my SS can get finished up. I would agree with the above statement about break-in of the new motor. With my SS, when I had the motor replaced, it ran a good 15-20* hotter than what it does now...with no changes. You just need to get some miles on the motor. The Water Wetter or Purple Ice (Roger has this stuff) work great to reduce temps, but I would wait until you have some miles on the car. Can't wait to see what that thing is going to put out once you have the tune done to it!

Neil

Was at HPS today for a slight A/F ratio tune, added water wetter and a quart of oil. Jeremy gave me the green light to open her up, can't disobey a direct order. Mike will be down next week and they'll dyno/tune the car then.

Driving it after a wait of 2 months is like starting all over again. I love it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I haven't driven my SS since the start of March. I am forgetting what it looks like. My neighbors think that I sold it, because they have not seen it in a while. Thankfully, Strange Engineering finally got on the stick and got the new rear to Roger and company. I think it is going on the lift today to be installed.

you can blame me for part of the delay, my C6 was on one of the lifts for 6 weeks before the engine went in.
