I would not, spend it on modding a C6 Vette. Because that 2 grand spent on mods, is money I am never going to see again. 2 grand is not going to buy much performance anyway. Money up the bird's a$$.

.
The problem with this option is.

1. Most here would not be satisfied with a stock Z06.

2. More $ will be necessary to remedy this problem.

Well, I was working on a similar budget as you... I went as follows:

1. Hurricane CAI, Kooks headers with catted x-pipe, install and tune.
Just under 3k.

2. Cam, install and tune.
About $1500

3. Supercharger, gauges, install and tune.
Have bought the Supercharger and gauges... It'll be another month before I can get the install and tune. This step will end up costing about $6500 total I guess.

All that said, while I'm not really unhappy with my path, I sometimes wonder if I would have been better off just saving up for the supercharger first, then adding the rest on a little at a time. The only downfall to how I have done it is that the supercharger gap is just so big, and it's hard to be patient once you have already gotten rolling on all of the other mods.

Future mods as follows:

4. Meth injection, install and tune.
Probably ~$2k

5. Clutch
SHould be under $2k

6. If I'm still can't help wanting more, forges and stroked LS3!

My first round of mods were 1 3/4 kooks, kooks 3` x-pipe and high flow cats(X-pipe steps down to 2.5 for exhaust,so you can say 3-2.5),vararam,160 t-stat,b&b rt.66 exhaust, and dyno tune. Thats what i did for the first round of mods.

This will cost more than $2000.
Thanks for the insights!

Given the forum general perspective of cat-backs not netting very good gains, would you have decided to hold off on them or do they receive additional performance gains due to the new headers & X-pipe?

I guess what I'm asking is, did you see a cumulative gain with the exhaust due to the entire system (including X-pipe & headers) netting more than the sum of each of the parts?

I suppose you may gain a couple hp from a catback system but nothing close to worth the $$ in my opinion. I would replace exhaust for the sound because stock is too quiet BUT I would definitely do headers first. Headers will wake the sound up a bit then you can add mufflers if you still want them. I said NPP with M2W because of the coolness factor. You can go from very loud to stock quiet by hitting a button. VERY

AND, Assuming that if you wanted a Mod that cost $2000, you'd have to save up for 4 months.

What Performance/appearance Mods would you do, and in what order?

Just thought I'd ask some of you folks what you might do if you had it to do all over.

I would mod the ls-3 but the ls-2 doesn't thrill me as much, If I had a ls-2. I'd sell it stock and find a screaming deal on a used Z. Went from a 02 Z-06. Now My 08 mods which I would do again
and not look back.
gears 1250,Coated Kooks 1 3/4 Headers & Vararam,2050, z-51 sways 160,
z-06 Mufflers and exhaust commander 600, 160, Dyno tune 450,
Stock Z speed and near hp levels with better mpg. 433 plus rwhp and 11's

You could say catbacks are for sound only. If your looking to spend the money on performance only, then forget the catbacks, but i would get the headers and the header companies x-pipe to go along with it.

I would also, if its in your budget, get the Fast90 intake also. That intake is worth its weight in gold when it comes to power under the curve.

Thanks for your input guys! Those of you who installed a CAI, did you need to have your cars tuned after that, or would you recommend waiting until you installed the headers and X-pipe?

In either case, did you purchase a programmer like the Diablo, or did you have your car tuned by a shop, and how did that work out for you?
