I changed the plugs and wires last night and now I am getting a charging system error message. I did notice that one plug wire was touching the main wire that comes off the alternator so I moved that and it is still giving the message.
I recently had the Service charging system message on my 05 C6 A4. I took it in and the low freq horn was changed (it blew the fuse) and they also changed the negative battery cable for corrosion.
Unrelated. Just because an event precedes another does not mean the first caused the second.
I think this has to be. I car has under 10,000 miles and was fine as I drove all day let the car cool down, changed the plugs and started it and the message was one. Didnt even drive anywhere.
Is it possible that the plug wire laying on the alt wire fried the alt?
at dealer but they are stumped.
5v from PCM as should be to signal alt to charge at idle but when attached to alt the volts on the L terminal wire drop and fluctuate between 1.3 and 4.7 v and alt does not charge at idle. Checked wire L terminal between pcm and alt and it seems to not be shorted. I guess they need to recheck everything because this cannot be that hard. Maybe the circuit back to the PCM is the problem?
