Default header installation help

I'm about to go outside and install my American Racing headers on my 08 Z and was wondering if there was a good write up on the process? I did a ton of searching, but came up short... I need to know things like... Is it really necessary to remove the oil lines? Torque specs... and pointers...

Thanks for any help.

The install is pretty straight forward...at least for my 2005 Z51 it was. Here is the link from my install. I was by myself so you can see where I used wire ties and tie down straps as a third hand.

Do yourself a favor I paid 260$ to have mine installed professionally
worth every penny.
1000 times easier on a lift, thats the only way I would do it myself

Dang. 260 is a good price mike. Most shops charge between 400-600. Heck, even 400 is a good price. I plan on getting mine prof. done when I get them.... and yeah, I wouldn't do the install without a lift. Much easier on the lift. In fact, you can rent a lift at some places for the day for about 200 bucks or so. It's a lot smoother/easier job if you use a lift.

You could always do it yourself and put the $200 towards buying a lift! At least thats how I justified it in my head when I bought my lift.

One tip I got off this forum. Remove the stock exhaust manifolds and cats as a unit. You can wiggle them out without much difficulty and it saves you from trying to get those frozen cat bolts out!

Let me get this straight, you're doing this on the ground with jack stands? Not a lift? Good luck. If you are, you're taking something that's pretty straight forward and making it a BITA. You're a better man than me. I used a lift and it was easy.

Don't let him scare you. Did mine on stands in 4-5 hours. Taking my time, so easy a caveman could do it! Retorque all fasteners after a few heat cycle.

Abviously you`ve never owned a 4th gen fbody. This header install on jack stands was unbelievably easy in comparrison to the fbody headers I`ve put on. This is w/ the LS2 I have not installed them on an LS7.

I put Stainlessworks headers on my 01 Z28 and it was a PITA! The LG Pro Long Tubes were so EASY they almost put themselves on. Both installs were done on jackstands. Wish I had a lift, but even for a 52 year old man laying on the concrete, the C6 install was a breeze.

After working on my C4 the C6 is a piece of cake. I could swap headers on the C6 in the time it took to remove half the plugs on the C4.

I did mine mostly by myself on Rhino ramps in the front and stands on the back; it really is very straight forward on the 'regular' C6, don't know about the Z06. I couldn't justify spending the cash to have them installed when I have the tools and time; it really only took me about six or seven hours, like I said, mostly alone.

I did mine myself on plastic ramps from wal mart and it only took me about 3 hours from start to starting the car and that was with two starts with straigh headers just for fun (it knocked off all the sound deading material on the roof in my garage.) You shouldnt have to remove any lines or stuff like that. The torque on your head bolts should be about 22ft pounds or so. make sure you slide them in and do a test fit first before you torque them bolts down. Also I recommend a heat sheild for your starter available from morso racing for about 25 bucks I think. Also if you doing it on jacks youll have to lay the headers flat and slide them in at sort of an angle. Good luck and have fun puttin em in.

There is a certain satisfaction to doing it yourself though!

I did the headers and full exhaust all the way back on mine, with jackstands in less than 4 hours.

Its really an easy job on an LS2, and an LS7 shouldn't be that much different. I'm not familiar with the oil lines on the LS7, but I didn't have to remove anything extra, other than the spark plug wires, and the headers just slid right in place.
