Default MN6 Trans Fluid Question

I have searched and searched, including FAQ....
and I know this has been gone over before but I cant seem to find the right answer

I need to change my 2005 C6 Z51 MN6 Transmission fluid - first timer

Reading up on Amsoil, there seems to be two options.

AMSOIL ATF (stock code ATFQT)
AMSOIL Torque-Drive Synthetic Transmission Fluid (stock code ATD)

Question #1 - This appears to be Automatic Trans Fluid.
and...The Dexron appears TO be ATF
Is it common to put ATF in a manual trans?

Royal Purple Syncromax is option #2 and it does not appear to be ATF
http://www.royalpurple.com/manual-tr...ion-fluid.html

Question #2- It appears that the same fluid also used in the Differential? Is this correct?

Also- roughly what quantities should I buy?

Sincere Thanks

Yes the MN6 calls for ATF but I can't tell you for sure which Amsoil is best. I did however use one of them last summer but I'll have to look at the jug to see which type it was.

And no, trans fluid and diff fluid are not the same...not even close! The diff uses a much heavier oil, for mine I also used Amsoil, but again will have to check to see what type it was.

Go with the Amsoil ATF. It has the correct ratings. I've used it tons of times in numerous MN6 cars. The one thing you'll notice is just slightly easier to shift on the first few shifts of the day.

Common for modern manuals to use ATF. It's a good lube and has the qualities needed for modern synchros.

Mich-
Thanks for the info.
I should have mentioned, the primary purpose for changing the fluid is that my trans is VERY stiff and notchy. Is the Amsoim ATF still be the best in this case?
Any idea of the amount of fluid I will need to do the Job?
Sincere thanks

Royal Purple Syncromax user here. Changed twice in 10k intervals. Great results in my opinion. Used in my C5Z and now my C6 in all types of driving conditions.

I believe it takes 4+ qts if I recall correctly. Pretty easy to measure though as you cap it off once it starts to pour out of side fill hole.

Rear end I use 75W90 Royal Purple Gear max. I believe this is 2+ qts.

I never had any transmission problems but I did switch to Royal Purple Synchromax. I run the car hard at times and I've had no problems. I have some 75W90 RP gear oil for the differential but I decided to leave well enough alone for now. Given a little more mileage and I'll change the differential oil.

Here's a couple links that may help:

Default So . . .

. . . run three quarts of Synchromax (it is light purple) and one quart of Mobil 1 ATF (it is very red). You get almost all the benefit of the Synchromax, but the blend LOOKS LIKE ATF.

No question use ROYAL PURPLE.. Check out their web site for info. Syncro Max in the tranny and Gear Oil in the differnential.. I swapped out the tranny fluid after 300 miles on mine and really noticed the difference. Shifts smoother. It works . I got mine at NAPA.

Does help - and (probably) won't affect the warranty. Its better than Mobil 1 and whatever came from the factory.

Actually, I just went to all Red Line oils, as they now have a kit - engine, transmission and differential lube with additive, plus water wetter and fuel system cleaner. I'm a sucker for convenience.
