I was gonna do coilovers but decided to do upgraded shocks instead on my stock C6, I'm also doing Hotchkis sway bars and Z06 monosprings, any advice on a high-end shock?

I'm considering the Koni FSD's or the Koni Sports, I'm wondering how much better the sports are?

Default Koni Sport

I had problems with the new inverted Sports about a year ago when they came out. Used them for hard lapping 2 days and the lower front mount bushings that the mount rod/pin goes thru would slide out of the lower shock collar. Taked to Koni NA about it and there was no upgrade to mounting or good fix. May not occur except extreme conditions.

The shocks were great but I had to go to the Bilstein Sports for now til something better comes up or maybe Koni has come up with a different bottom mounting for the fronts.

Anyone else have problems with the Koni sports? I don't have magnetic ride control on my 05 C6, still looking for shock opinions, also wondering if I should get stiffer springs?

Never rule out coil overs, and if you get a chance to take a ride in a LG coil over car, please do. If you are close we can take you out in one of the cars here at the shop as well.

Our Pricing is less than 1/2 of a similar Moton or Penske package with equal performance as shown on the Race track, and our pricing is only slightly higher than the heavier steel coil overs. For the street, we apologize for giving you more than you need. But at LG Motorsports we consider that "Value".

Here are some questions that you should ask when getting any Coil over package:
  • What material is the shock made of? Is is heavy steel or aluminum?
  • Is it Gas filled with a separate gas chamber? Because if it is not separate, the shock oil will trap air bubbles and reduce and change the effectiveness of the shock with each stroke of the shock.
  • What Brand of spring is being used? Hypercoil, Eibach, or some off brand with no name. The no name springs will sag and take a set, where the Hypercoil springs do not. They are "Pre Stressed" and blanchard ground top quality wire to insure that their installed height does not change.
  • Does the shock length cause it to bottom out when it is loaded in a corner? We took the time to have Bilstein build our LG Shock to our custom length so there is no chance of the shock bottoming under loading. If a shock bottoms, the effective spring rate goes to infinity and the tire is now the only "shock" absorber in the suspension. Obviously this is not a good thing.
  • Adjustability? Adjustable shocks work well for Drag racing because you need a 90/10 shock for the front and a 50/50 for the rear to promote weight transfer. But for all other applications, you need a tuned and balanced shock spring package that work in harmony. The ***** on the shock work well when you change your spring rate but if your springs are already correct for the shock then you will take the shock out of the range of the spring if you are just turning *****.

Our Shock/Spring package was developed by Lou at LG Motorsports in conjunction with the highly skilled engineers from Bilstein. We at LG Motorsports have nurtured our racing contacts to be able to carry that technology into the street products that we build.

All of our coil overs are built here by hand, to order just for you. Give me a call here at the shop and I can get a set built and setup for you!

You might look at the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks. less harsh than Bilsteins, less expensive than Konis.

if the 08 is the same as an 06 which I can guarentee is the same as an 07 (which is in my garage wearing Performers as we speak), then just go here:

Got me there, I bought Callaway coilovers but never installed them, I heard of some kind of issue with premature wear on the bushings after 7000 miles so I just sold them and purchased some Z06 monosprings so I wont need full coilovers, those Bilstein coilovers from LG look nice but I'll probably get Koni Sports or FSDs.

i inquired about Edelbrock IAS shocks for my 2008 at www.shockwarehouse.com they told me to ask Edelbrock because their list only goes to 2006 i then e-mailed Edelbrock and was told they do not make IAS shocks for the 2008 so i ordered the Bilsteins for my car instead. i didn't think there would be a difference from 06 to 08 but i was not willing to chance it. i have Bilsteins HD's on my Subaru LGT and they work great. btw you would sure think Edelbrock would update their own catalog and Tech department to include the 08 guess they have so much money that they don't care.

Try talking to Gary at Hardbarusa. He can build you some Penske's customized to the Z06 spring rates. Thats about as good of a shock as you can get.

Penske's are tough to beat, but pricey.

Look them up for the 05-06. I have the IAS on my 07 which isn't listed as well .......

Edelbrock should use the Sauve Shampoo line for advertising over the FDS, 'Ours does what theirs does, for less".

I've used them on numerous vehicles, not just the vette and everybody has liked them. The only shock better, IMO, would be an adjustable shock.
