Not sure what is normal, but now that I have about 500 miles on mine there is a little bit of play in the shaft when it is in gear. Their is about 1/8 inch of play in all directions. I thought is might be the bolts on the threaded portion of the handle coming loose but when I feel down at the bottom of the shaft the play is there too.

there should be a little bit of play but not an 1/8" inch,. one thing is to check to make sure it is actually not play in the tranny. do check htis take the console off and wiggle the shifter. if the connector rod that goes back to the tranny moves when the shifter moves the play is not the shifter but it the trany connector rod. again there is supposed to be some play in both. we build in a slight amount of free play to actually reduce NVH in the shifter.

Yup...George has this figured out. I've tried all 4 versions of the ball/cup design. The current one with a slight amount of play transmits much less vibration and is the best IMO..
I found that mine feels like it has a little play in it until the transmission/driveline comes up to temperature. Once it's to operating temperature it's like a bolt action rifle...sweet.

Thanks George for the quick response. I exaggerated on the amount of play and just measured it. It is closer to 1/16 of inch measured at the top of the ball which I am going to assume is normal.
