2006 A6 Transmission Question
Just recently I have started to notice that when I accelerate slowly from a stop, I get a whirring noise that seems to be rpm sensitive. It goes from 1st to 4th gear. At about 30 mph it goes away. When I decelerate, especially coasting, I notice the same thing. No whirring noise from 6th to 5th gear, but at about the same 30 mph I get the sound. It is not loud, and if the radio is on I will not hear it. Could be normal for all I know. Any thoughts?

I think it is my alternator. I just open the exhaust

Had not thought of an alternator problem. Any of you pros out there have any thoughts on the alternator? Are my symptoms typical of an alternator problem? If so, does this imply an imminent failure?
