Default Need cam advise

I have c6 05 z51 and I install Kooks headers 1 7/8 with 3 x pipe, SLP under drive pulley, and vararam intake, and I’m thinking to install cam, I’m using my car on a daily basis, I need your advice about which cam should I install ?? do I need to change the rocker arms too or it’s not that important ?
Thanks folks

This is a topic that is always floating around. Unfortunately it is about like asking what type of woman should I marry. A lot depends on what you like and want. Maybe describe some characteristics that you don't want and some you do. You will get more response from people. Typically, most people go with a 228-232 cam. Good luck with your search.

I would suggest finding a local tuner and go check out some cars that they have and talk to them.

i just did a livernois stage 1 on my a6, with 1 3/4 headers and cai it made 444 and with them tuning it, the drivability is excellent

that is an ls3, i imagine and ls2 would be a bit less, but overall i am very pleased with the cars power, drivability and the lope is sick

Thank you for the reply Terry!

C6_Z51, is your car an auto or manual? Typically we recommend our stage 1 or stage 2 camshaft. With these cams we've never had to flycut the pistons, although always advise you check when doing a cam swap. They make excellent power and retain very good drivability.

Specs are:

Stage 1 - 224/224 .568/.568 114 LSA
Stage 2 - 232/232 .595/.595 114 LSA

The stage 1 can be found here and the stage 2 can be found here

Thank you

Regards,

Im not sure where you are located but give Ron at Vengeance Racing a call. They are a supporting vendor on the forum. I had them do the Cam/FAST 92mm on my 07 LS2. With a VRX5(236/238 601/605 113 +2) the car made 451/436 picking up about 20 hp everywhere under 3,000 rpm. The car drives great but it lopes like a ****

Stock rockers are fine.

What type of idle are you looking for? Power? Goals?

I have similiar mods w/ exception of 1-3/4 hdrs + a ported FAST & NPPs. I choose a 228/232 114 LSA 598int/603exh. The cam install included pushrods & springs, idle is bumped to 900 by choice ( didn't like the slight shake a stock rpm). With a proper tune it's very civil to drive especially w/ the NPPs closed, although it's a "sunny day" car, I think it would be easy to live w/ although if it was a daily driver for me I may have choosen a milder cam, but not much. Anyhoo, I made 452rwhp/418rwtq (this was w/ Flowmasters & I'm sure I picked up more w/ the NPPs) which I assure is plenty strong for a daily driver if not a little overboard (mainly do to concern driving in wet or cold). The NPPs are the key to making this combo civil, the Flowmasters were loud and the NPPs open are way loud, but closed, real close to stock. You didn't mention your current exhaust, so if it's stock your not gonna lose much HP, but it will make civil as well. Hope this provides a point of reference for you.

Thank you all for your replay, my car is MN6, and my exhaust is the stock exhaust cuz i don't like it to be loud especially when i drive my car and my wife is setting next to me , actually the idle that im looking for is to get some power and in the same time to drive it daily cuz the wether in my country is very very very hot (Kuwait).

For camshaft selection I would use something like our 2X camshaft. It'll give you great reliability, about 30+ RWHP(depends on supporting mods), and the idle will be good.

Give us a call if you have any questions.
