I have painted fuel rail covers to install and want to disconnect the fuel line instead of bending the driver side cover to install.
I have a 3/8" GM fuel line disconnect tool, but after looking at the fitting at the firewall and the tool, I can't figure it out how to use it.
Worse yet, the Helms manual doesn't show a picture or instructions for this type fitting.
The fitting I am talking about is on an 2008 at the firewall behind and above the driver side fuel rail cover. It has a small rectangular assembly on top of the male-female coupling.
I think that tool is for disconnecting at the fuel rail....Just insert the rounded sections into the fitting and it will trip the release..
I'll have to look at that.
However, I think disconnecting the fuel line at the firewall is what I need to be able to put it through the painted fuel rail cover without risk of damage.
Have to go back to the Helms manual and try looking for this connector again.

Everyone does it at the fuel rail it seems...Most actually do not even bother and just tape up the FRC's (though I'd be inclined to pop the line). Rick had a thread which shows how to remove the clip and line in the first few pictures here:

Here's some information to install a coil cover without disconnecting the fuel line. It's safer to disconnect the fuel line but I'd do it at the coil cover....not at the firewall.
