Default Mod and void waranty or not

I have unmolested 2006 Z51 coupe with 15k. The car came with a extended warranty to 61k or 2011. I am thinking about doing the following

L92 Heads/L76 intake 232/240 cam 114lsa which will involve flycutting the pistons I am sure my warranty will be toast even though my service advisor is cool they have to send back failed parts to gm. I figure I will be in the 470Rwhp range

If I don't do the heads/cam thing I will still do headers/long tubes and a fast90 for around 405rwhp.

What would you guys do? If I would of kept the 2005 without the warranty this wouldn't be a question but there is some security knowing they have to fix it if it brakes.

Quicksilver I know how you feel so please don't give me a big lecture about stuff.

I guess getting the dealer to do the installation and maintaining your warranty is out of the queston. I just ordered the L92/L76 combo myself. But, I failed to inquire about the remaining time of my warranty.....laziness on my part. My car is an 05, hence I am getting close to warranty expiration or it's just plain gone. Anyway, I have time on my side.....just want to get the parts in and be ready to go. Oh, I'm going with the 224/228 cam for my setup.

The FAST Intake would probably void your warranty also. That's something you can see right off top. Sorry, I did not answer your question.....just my .02

If anything in the drivetrain breaks its time to upgrade. The warranty should still cover the rest of the car.

I replaced the entire engine in my car after owning it one year. Lingenfelter/21st Century Muscle Cars provides a great warranty on their built engines but I knew vast portions of my factory warranty would be gone. I wouldn't jeopardize my factory warranty for minor modifications but for a major mod I felt it was worth it. I enjoyed driving my stock C6 but I enjoy driving my modified C6 about a thousand times more. Everything worked great...it was well worth it.

For engine mods I'd suggest Lingenfelter (21st Century Muscle Cars is an authorized LPE installer if Texas is closer than Indiana) or Katech. Callaway, LGM and Doug Rippie are also excellent choices.

To the best of my knowledge, tracking your car will jeopardize the LPE warranty. This is common though...even the Pratt & Miller C6.RS (with the Katech engine) mentions tracking your car will jeopardize their warranty.

It would have to be a high quality shop that really stands behind their work (even if they won't allow racing the car with mods as part of their warranty), such as the ones Wayne has described. You might note and want to talk with either some of CF tuners out there, or even Callaway's new shop in SoCal.

I'll keep it short.

Just me, but I wouldn't do heads and cam on a car which still had a full 3 years and 46,000 miles of warranty left on it's powertrain.

Sounds like you have a GMPP? If so, then as it stands, thats bumper to bumper, powertrain included that the dealer has to fix at no cost, and at no hassle to you should it break.

They give you any $#** and they don't have a leg to stand on.

From reading posts here it sounds like GM is going to tighten up on Warranty claims. If you are doing "just" LT headers and an intake you'll have to tune and from the sound of things a tune is now going to be a Warranty denial.

My modded '05 reached 3 years and I traded for an '08 that will stay stock (and probably get an extended Warranty later).

Full factory bumper to bumper warranty. If I don't do the heads/cam thing I will pick up a spare PCM and tune with that.

Warranties are over-rated. Go for the increased performance.

If you have a good relationship with your servicing dealer...you will still have warranty to cover most of the car after you mod. I bought my car new new and had a blower installed within 6 months. My servicing dealer never skipped a beat, on anything.

here is my opinion...if you track the car then do the mods that will get you to your performance goals (lose warranty but hey, you pay to play.)

If you don't track the car why bother with any mods? You have plenty of power for the street....
