Default Wheel Swap

When changing from the OEM wheels to after-market can the tire pressure sensors be taken off the original wheels and re-used on the new ones? Also; I understand that there is a special tool needed to allow the sensors to 'talk' to the computer on the C6 (unlike the C5 where you could re-set them using a magnet). Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes, you can use your sensors in your new wheels.

The 4 sensor ID#'s are in the TPMS computer memory, so nothing will at all will have to be done when they are mounted into your new wheels.

THAT IS - if they are put back on the same corner of the car where they were originally installed!

The TPMS computer knows which sensor was registered to which corner of the car (that's how it knows which pressure to display for each different corner). If you mix up the sensors from where they were originally installed, they'll still work, butt.....if the DIC says "LF 32 psi" it might really be talking about the RR.

The TPMS computer can only store 4 sensor ID#'s in its memory, so if you got a different set of sensors for your new wheels (or if your current ones get mixed up) the shop will need to do a "relearn" procedure to register them properly (log their ID#'s into the TPMS computer).

Below is a video of the procedure and as you can see it only takes about a minute or so.

Bob

I ask because I am considering getting a set of painted wheels to use during the winter months (to keep my polished wheels from getting ruined by all the salt on the roads). I was planning on getting a second set of tires for these wheels as well, so that I could quickly swap the wheels myself every fall and spring.

Would I also have to buy a second set of sensors, or could I swap those between the two sets of wheels?
yes you can break the front side down an take two bars and hold the bead down to get the sensors out. or you can buy 4 more and code them to the car with the tool but it can only remember 4 at a time. if you take the tires all of them to the tire machine a good hundred feet away it wont read the switch and their is no need to recalibrate or set with the tool
