Regarding the 2005 crank bolt issue; Are the 2006 and forward cranks pinned or is a simple revised bolt utilized.
The larger question: I am about to do a Cam and it makes sense to address my 2005 crank bolt at the same time while the rack is dropped - cheap insurance, right?
My gut reaction is to do the Magnason, or equal Pin; But is the latest and greatest GM bolt equally trustworthy?
Has Anyone out there addressed this matter? As always, All advice welcome.

I just did my wifes 05. I don't know if there is a revised bolt. The new one that I got looked like the one that came out. I believe that only the very early 05s had the problem with the bolt backing out. Someone posted the VIN numbers, and my wifes 125335 VIN was well past it.
As far as whether it is a good time to address the bolt issue, you don't have much choice on this issue. The bolt that holds the balancer is a torque to yield bolt, meaning it stretches. This makes it a one time use only bolt.
Most information I've read on here says that you don't really need to pin the crank until you get into serious horsepower (i.e. forced induction).

Pin it, it is cheap, and easy. There have been many cars beyond the recall that have had the failure even with the new diamond encrusted washer. I had them pin mine. No worries. Why take the chance with a known issue that can be easily addressed.

Not just the C5's have that stupid design, but also our C6's. To sleep without worry ever again, just pin it, otherwise continue to ponder on it for how long? You will always wonder.....it's good insurance especially when our C6's can punch out from 400 to well over 500HP.....just do it.
I follow this rather closely and I haven't seen any reports of cars out of the affected range (first 11,000 05 cars) having the problem. No engines have pinned cranks so it must be working pretty well. I and others have had the flexible coupling fail in the hub causing belt chirping because of the slight misalignment. The first cars had a problem with the machine that didn't put the correct torque on the hub bolt . The fix was to put the correct torque on the bolt and use a diamond impregnated washer that bites into the hub and bolt and secures it.
