Ok, so I did one set and they looked like ***. I tried to find a good fabricator to make me some out of aluminum using my bracket idea but it was tough trying to find somebody. So, today I tried to make some keeping in mind I would have to use my welding skills, or lack thereof to complete the project. I wound up with some "hidden" brackets. I think they look pretty trick. And yes, that's only one set on there.
Ok, there are 2 holes in your heads that are not used by header bolts. I use those bolt holes. I have a .5" spacer that goes behind the bracket to mave it away from the valve cover. Then, I have a 1.5" tab (flat piece of metal with hole drilled for head bolt-hole). On that tab I have a piece of box tube welded. Its probably a lil better than 45*. Its about 2.5" long. The box tube is around 3/8th" across. On the end not welded to the tab I drilled a hole across the box tube. A piece of threaded rod goes through the tube. On either side of the box tube I have a .5" spacer made from pvc pipe. The tiny stuff. Then each coil and a chrome acorn nut. On the top bolt hole for the coils I run a piece of threaded rod and a spacer again made from pvc. Then, 2 chrome acorn nuts. The spacers allow you to get the acorn nice and tight so the coils are stable. This set-up allows the use of factory wires. Its just an alternative to the Katech type mounts which still place the coils up over the valve covers. I wanted them comlpetely off the motor so I could see it. I would have mounted them someplace in the engine compartment but there is no place left in my engine compartment. I can post some pics of the bracket off the car later if it helps.
You use 2 of these brackets on each side of the motor. Each bracket hold 2 coils.

Nice solution, you should think about selling them. have you seen what katech charges for a set?
Oh I'm sure Katech's stuff has a lot mo better welding than I can do. Plus, I don't think too many of our forum members run without the fuel rail covers. However, if somebody wants some feel free to PM me.
I have to say that the brackets look great, I never liked the covers
I removed them before the H/C/Intake install and never put them back.
I would be intersted.

Pics off the car please, and when the project is finished. Once we see the final pics, I might be pm'ing you!!!!! I've been looking for something elegant, and yours looks like it might be the answer!
What fuel rail covers? Oh yeah those red plasticy things on my car junk shelves. I want to see my engine. I'd like some kind of neater coil holders to go with my SpinFast92, AFR 205, yada, yada LS2 A6, 3:15's.
Do you think the closer proximity to headers will create any issues?
Seriously that looks like a very nice option for coil relocation.
Lucky you , you've got the Spin for a neighbor...Cool
Some pictures of the finished product would be nice!!!!
What stiken Warranty!!!!!!
2 weeks after I got my vette the warranty was gone!!!!!!!!!
I had a seat heater module repalced two times. The second time was last September.........complete with nitrous bottle and cam lope, as all the envious techs gathered around the spinmonster. Thats right, the spinmonster was still under warranty. I didnt even get a single yap about the tap at the heated seat fuse for switched power to my relay that powers about 10 different things.....bottle heater to exhaust controller to wideband.
I took my car apart 72 hours after buying it to swap the heads, valve springs, air cleaner, and nitrous system. Instead of the fat dealership owner smoking a cigar as he says my warranty is voided, I get compliments. Find a good dealer and make friends.

Guy
When I lived in Ft Lauderdale I knew the techs at the largest dealer in my area(heavy line), but sinced I moved to Sebring, the only dealer caters to OLD people, you know SENIORS,, like me.
He has no vette techs, so I would not take my car in for any service.
I have no choice but to fix it myself, with help from my freinds.
I will take some more pictures with it off the car. Just keep in mind I'm no expert welder my stuff is pretty functional. The whole point of making them this way is you can't see any of that stuff, that's why its cool and this is my favorite design so far.
As far as heat, that did go through my mind. I can actually make them as far away as I want, but I want them to be tucked in out fo the way. The valve covers they are bolted directly to get pretty hot, and there is at least 6" of air between the header and coil.
If I post up too many pictures somebody like Ed will steal my idea and start making them pretty and make a fortune
