I've discovered a noise coming from the latch system for the rear hatch, and wanted to see if there is any knowledge on the forum related to this issue. When I run over some sharp bumps in the road, it sounds like the hatch striker is "gently slamming" itself up and down within the latch system. "Gently slamming" is the best I description I can think of. The closest similar sound I can think of is having something loose in the storage compartments in the trunk, that gets thrown up in the air, then lands and rolls around for a split second. I've emptied out the entire car, checked for loose components under the car, etc. I've been troubleshooting this sound for a few month and think I have determined the source.
I usually close my rear hatch by bringing the striker down gently upon the latch, then pushing down with my palm until the electrical pull down engages and pulls the hatch down the rest of the way. I found that once the hatch is "closed," I can still push down another 1/8" on the hatch, and it will spring back up to the "closed" position. It seems like there is play in the latching system, and that it does not truly bottom out when it pulls the hatch down.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has the same extra play in their latching system, and if they have any noises too.
Are the body lines even between the Hatch and rear bumper cap?....If so, maybe a simple adjustment of the bumpers on each corner to pre-load the hatch a bit when closed will help...See if you have any play at each corner..
