Saw a C6 with what sounded like a super charger. Each time the guy switched gears, a short flame went out of his tailpipes. This was at night. Flames were blue, very short bursts. Is this normal for supercharged cars? Or did this guy have something else? I saw this on the highway, so I could not chat the guy up.
Its unburnt fuel between shifts. That or you were following a 007 spy and he had rocket boosters.
A popular thing to do with ole 50's hotrods is to install a spark plug in the tail pipe. You rap it up and on decel pop the switch and walla, flames shoot out the pipes like the movie Grease.
I wouldn't say its a good thing. We used to catch the paint on fire with the 911s all the time. I could only imagine what would happen to a C6 rear facia.... yikes.
I searched the internets. Few vids on youtube and other sites show people with this effect. I would link, but dont want to get banned since all are racing vids. It does seem to be combo of no cats and a supercharger running at higher psi.
I actually had a guy show up with one if the ebay versions of that thing for an install. I said, "um, no I'm not putting that on your Mustang". Lol, I didn't want to be affiliated with the Fast and the Furious. If it were a 49 Merc maybe....
There are a few of us in the GTO crowd that could pop a small flame between shifts at 6k or higher, the similarities between us that could do this had medium to big cams, straight pipes and no cats. and even then it happened 1 out of 5 times. with a S/C i'd bet it would be more prominent.
