Default ready to pull trigger on cai and headers

So tomorrow is the big day for the 08. My question, and guess I need some reassurance, is: will the car run fine with the CAI and headers but no tune (seeing I'm not ready to drop the engine warranty)?
I know the pitfalls of hydrolocking with the CAI and am willing to take the risk but do any codes ever come up from adding these 2 items?

Are you going with the Vararam Honker or the Callaway Snake Charmer?

Vararam > all others

You do realize that the cai and headers alone can give GM cause to void your warranty? Might as well get a tune to get the most out of it and make sure everything is running right.

Wow, that worried about the warranty? Really? I'm not worried at all. It's typically the little things that go. If the engine goes it's probably my fault and they won't pay anyway. If I red line it the dealer will know and refuse to pay saying a was too hard on the engine. I think there is more of a chance to hydrolock then to blow the motor. As long as you go to a respected tuner who tunes on the conservative side there is no reason to worry IMHO. I think you leave too much on the table without getting a tune but that is just my opinion.

According to my service advisor, the CAI won't affect anything and the headers will only affect the warranty on the exhaust.

My main question is Will not having a tune throw out any codes"?

Of course it will...High flow cats will often (usually) throw a code unless tuned around or out..

I have a buddy that just did LT headers and high flow cats and he got the extended O2 cables and his car throws no codes. He does not have a tune either. The key is making sure you connect the rear 02 sensors or buy 02 SIMS.

I think you will be fine. You will probably get more out of the mods with a tune, but I think you will still be able to feel the difference.

He said the tune would void the entire drivetrain warranty. That's why i didn't do this 3 weeks ago. So now I'm thinking I can just do the mods and have a little peace of mind.

You will almost certainly throw codes at some point with the high flow cats you will be using with the headers.

Hooking your rear 02s up with the high flow cats will still most likely result in codes and this is one of the reasons why many people, even those with high flow cats, have the rear 02s turned off in the tune.

If someone is suggesting 02 sims, have them give some suggestions as to where they can be purchased.

One of the companies who was making them got hit with severe fines and penalties.

Oh, and as for headers not voiding your warranty...http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1565254040

Thanks Quicksilver. I guess that's what I needed to know. I've got a great car as it is and I just hate to jeopardize the dependability of it for a few more horses (however fun they may be).

I will leave it as is.

Thanks guys!

Have you had to pass emissions with it like that in your state?

CEL = check engine light.

You'll get one with headers and CAI, most likely from the O2 sensors- either the rear ones, or the front ones not coming up to temp quickly enough.

Sounds like you've decided against the headers and CAI. I'm guessing you don't know what you're missing. Have you ridden in a car with headers/CAI and tune?

It's mmmm-mmmmmm good.
