I'm in the process of purchasing a converter for my 07 A6, and I was wondering if a multi disc setup is necessary or will a single disc work fine.
I spoke with Jack at Precision and he said a lot of the nitrous/boost cars use a multi disc so it will lockup at WOT. My car has a 100 shot installed but I don't plan on going much higher than a 125.
What do you guys recommend? Single or multi? Pros and Cons of each?
Somebody with knowledge answer this guy. And enlighten me.
I'm confused, I thought that only clutches for a manual transmission were single or multi disc and torque converters for an automatic transmission just came in different stall speeds and a choice of lock-up or non lock-up.
they always try to sell the multi disk, i have a single disk from them, it wont lockup on the dyno, but on the street it is fine, the multi disk is slower in the 1/4 by a tenth. if you roll race top speed with juice then you might want it, but with the a6 you don't need it unless you get 410s for the 1/4 and use all 6 gears, then once your in 6th command converter lockup

Single disc for sure ...I would ONLY consider a multi disc in a car with a forged bottom end and crazy boost from a blower or turbos or a 250 shot or higher.

I've got a single disc 3600 stall from Yank and pulled a 1.569 60ft three weeks ago. Dave told me the same thing - that you don't need a multi-disc unless you've got a blower or significantly more power than stock.
single disc would be fine for you. A4/A6s only benefit from the higher dollar multi-disc stalls if its behind a LOT of power. If your just a 'normal' stockish or small shot C6, go single.
If you wanted to eventually go with a big cube stroker on a much larger shot or run a some serious boost on a turbo/blower set-up then a multi might be worth it for you.
The 2009 CTS-V with the LSA 556 HP supercharged 6.2 L engine will be available with a 6 speed automatic. It's the 6L90 and it has a multi disc lock up torque converter...sounds like GM agrees with you guys.
