Default NPP question on 08

I have an 08 that did NOT come with the NPP exhaust, came with the standard quiet one. I'm looking to get an NPP, I know with the 05-07 you had to use the "NPP in a box" to get it to work, my question is.. Do I need the NPP in a box since 08s were technically designed for it, or do I just need the mufflers?

Yes, you still need NPP in a box.

Looks like it CAN be done, it's just not cost effective.

I have a very simple system with all the parts you need (except the mufflers) $160 and includes the wireless control. www.nakidparts.com npp in a box lite

Not sure how you figure that....The option from the factory is 1199.00 You know you can pick up everything you need for 1099.00 and it should not cost much more than 100-150 for any muffler shop to install. To me it seems very cost effective if you want the control NPP offers.

Right, I'm not arguing that, just saying it CAN be done, but it isn't really cost/time effective. I'm probably ordering the exhaust tonight

PUSH - take a look at the C6 parts for sale. If no luck, try one of the famous auction sites. I bought a pristine set of Z06 mufflers and cat back pipes for $312 at fleabay. Then the NPP in a box and exactly $100 at my favorite perf exhaust shop. Do THAT math and it is cost effective. Which ever way you go, I bet you love the NPP/Z06 style sound and control over that sound. I had Magnaflow and could NOT adjust to the drone at cruise speeds. Good luck!

I bought the mild to wild from Ed, he was also kind enough to install it.

I paid $760 for a set from E-bay, new off of a LS3 that upgraded to an after market set up. Can't understand the mentality of that. Have the best of both worlds and sound that can't be duplicated in open mode and then go after market CRAZY..

And one more thing the Z-06 mufflers are a nice alternative, however the LS3 NPP has a much more aggressive sound in open mode than the Z-06, that is a fact.

Yeah, z06 wont be loud enough for me. I mean they may if/when I get LTs but that wont be for a while. Gonna do intake/exhaust/lowering and call it done for a while. (I say this now) haha

Keep in mind if you buy NPP from a Z06 they are 3" pipes. You will need to modify your system which has 2.5" pipes. This is why you can find Z06 NPP systems a lot cheaper than NPP systems typically. This is not a big deal if you are putting headers on as you can order the 3" systems. If you already have headers and 2.5" pipes it gets more challanging to install the Z06 NPP system.
