Default breaking into the 10s

would it be hard for me to break into the 10s with my H/C/I vette? 470rwhp going to be putting a 3600 stall and 373 gears and running a hoosier drag radial

It's almost always difficult to get into the 10s with a street car (unless of course you're starting with say, a Z06, ZR1 or Ford GT ) but in my opinion, no, you shouldn't have any problems going 10s with that combination, especially in cooler weather.

6 speed would be difficult at that power level, but with the auto, it shouldn't be too difficult if you get traction off the line.

You definately have the power, gears, stall, and tires to make it happen. However that does not guarantee anything. Take comfort in knowing that your set up is theoretically capable of running 10s. Actually doing it though is a completely different story. Good luck.

Don't get too excited, 10's are just hard to come by but when the stars are aligned it happens. The math on your set up looks good, but it's just a perfect combo of power, traction, track & weather conditions along w/ a fair amount of driver skill. Best of luck & please keep us posted!

Any and everything. Rear, trans, engine, or if you're really unlucky the entire car if you get too squirrely. Scared yet?

In all seriousness, adding that kind of power and putting the car thru that kind of stress will always have the potential for breakage. Stock parts are only capable of handling so much. Now before you scrap the whole racing idea and hide your car away in the garage, let me put your mind at ease. IF you use quality components, and IF you have it built and tuned by a knowledgeable and competent shop, and IF you know when to pull back if things get out of hand, you should be able to hit your goals and still drive home safely.

I'm sure you've heard the old saying over and over again; "You've got to pay to play." Well that's not just a cute euphanism. It was derived from experience. Build it right.

The only thing keeping me from the 10's is a cool night with decent air and I'm only making 410 rwhp. I think 3.73's will be too much however and if you still have a choice, go with Mickey Thompsons.

I agree about the gears. I'm a M6 guy but I read plenty of posts on both. Most seem to say 342's for an auto should be tops. At your HP level, I think 373's ,(from what I've read)would be too much. Do a search or maybe some auto guys will chime in with thier thoughts. Dennis50nj is running tens with bolt ons, on an A4. shoot him a pm for his thoughts. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

LOL oh you sure can...if your tune is a little lean to give you high dyno numbers you can burn a hole in a piston at the top end...or a valve spring can fail and you can drop a valve and eat an engine...or many other things. Those are just two I've personally seen.

but hey, you can get hit by a car crossing the street...you only live once, and those 10 or 11 seconds on the track are some of my favorite moments in life! Don't avoid the thrill of racing because you might break something.
