Does a 2005 Z51 have an oil cooler? If it does not have one is it worth getting one like the lingenfilter oil cooler or the Z06 oil cooler for hard street driving and minimal track use?
05 Z51 does have oil and tranny cooler on it. I have an 05 Z51. If you are only going to the track (drag strip) once or twice a year, then forget about it. From what I have read and researched on this topic, you only get into trouble when oil temps reach close to 300 for longer runs which would only happen when tracking your car on road courses and pushing it to the limits. Then you might want to consider it. I am new to the game and have only done 3 events in my vette. Oil temps got upto 283 on a 90 degree day on a 30 minute session. I have had an alarm for high tranny temps twice. Both were at the end of the day and at the end of a 30 minute run where I had learned the track and was pushing harder. I backed off and drove around the paddock a while to cool things off. I am going to try Redline tranny fluid to see if that helps, but a dewitts radiator with oil and tranny cooler is in my future during the off-season as I hope to have 6 to 8 track days each year. Hope this helps. Also, be careful with a stand alone cooler as it takes a while for the temps to get where they should be (if you in cold climate I should say). Check these threads...
