I have 17" ZR1 wheels with MT ET Street Radial 295 45 17. I have been reading about using 17" GTO spares up front with some M&H skinnies. Would it be ok to run that skinnie setup up front with my rear setup that I have now or am I looking for trouble?

Yes it will be ok, especially if you use the M&H radials instead of the bias plies (only M&H and Hoosier even make 17" skinny tires).
The problem is that those GTO spare rims (I have a set sitting right behind me actually ) do not directly fit on the front of a C6 (they fit C5s a little better).
They definitely don't clear the Z51/later F55 brakes and they just barely make it on the base cars as well. The center of the rim has to be opened up to clear the hubs and the caliper might hit the spokes.
An adaptor (what I was going to use) will help with this though but that's a REAL hassle during mounting/dismounting.
