Ok I took my car out tonight, drove for about 30 minutes, had the car off for a while then started it back up. I noticed my check engine light is on. I have a honker in my car, I havent had any problems with the light coming on. I did drive in the rain yesterday so I am wondering if that is the cause of this? Being that the rain can get into the filter since the shroud has a hole in it. I am gonna take it to a dealer and let them check the code. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Need to read the code. Could be anything. I doubt rain with an any aftermarket CAI would trip a code. Autozone (I think) will pull the code for free. But interpretation of the root problem simply from a code is not that straight forward.
I would not rush to the dealer immediately. May want to wait a while to see if it goes away by itself. Some may suggest to disconnect the battery. That will erase the code that triggered the SES light but also the fault history.

No, I don't have any thoughts.
Truth be told, in a modified car, it could be any ********** thing

Modified? A simple CAI and Stingers doesnt justify the word "modified". But I will plead guilty to a slight alteration of inferior design (i.e. wimpy sounding exhaust and restrictive breathing apparatus).
Ok guys thanks for the input. Alot of interesting theories on this. I did think to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and see if it resets. I also suspect maybe the coupler for the intake came loose or needs to be retightened.
I really dont want to goto the dealer right away. Would they frown at the CAI and try to blame that (even if the code is related to an intake problem).
Ok I just went outside and lifted the hood up. I noticed the hose clamps before and after the MAF sensor were loose, and I did tighten them snug when I installed the CAI about a month ago. I disconnected the battery and tightened them up and the light is off now. I am gonna drive the car in a bit and see what happens, wish me luck! Thanks for all your help.

Probably was a lil lean. Computer probably sensed a reduction in airflow, (due to the loose hose clamps) but never compensated the fuel mixture for it, hence seeing the light!

I had the same issue with my Honker on my 08 LS3. I contacted Callaway, but they could not help. The Mass air flow sensor on the 08's is a lot more sensitive than previous years. I checked my system, and although do not think that this was the issue, but the rubber cuff that goes over the lid was mangled, and I found a flat spot on the mass air flow adaptor. Callaway replaced the items under warranty. I have since then gotten my car tuned. Also check the your mass air flow sensor is pointed towards the correct direction.
All airflow mods make a car run lean at part throttle and richer at WOT....no exceptions. Just because you had no check engine light for a long time doesnt mean it wasnt lean. The car compensates for a -14/+24% variation from stoic. Most cars run around 10-15% leaner when they do these mods and then one day instead of being +20% they go +24% and pop that code.
Another fact is that untuned and poorly tuned cars run different long term fuel trends at different rpm's. Some tuners do WOT tunes on a dyno and dont log MAF frequency vs LTFT's to get the fuel trends consistent at all rpms and thus at 55pm at 1800rpm's ytou can be +17 and at 100mph at 3000rpms you may be at +4% and then at some other speed/rpm, you peak at +24%. Its all about driving it the same way all the time and then holding that one rpm/load it suddenly gives the code making you think something happened to cause it that was different than yesterday. It didnt. The thing that cuased the code happened the day you modded it and didnt tune it for all airflow readings.
Its a minor adjustment and any competent tuner can fix it with a minor tweak or can extract 20 more HP by doing the complete tune.
All other assumptions aside, we are assuming the car isnt tuned and that the code is for a lean condition. Starting a thread with "I have an CEL" doesnt help you or anyone. A code reader usually ends these threads.

My vote is lean as well. Next time it happens, take it to Autozone and have them read it for free.
I went to Autozone, but they said that the policy now changed, and the can no longer scan the PCM for free, or even for a charge. They said that I would need to buy a scanner.

well well if the dealer frowned and blamed the cai i guess they would be right or ya can call it an OOF owner occured fault
My new '08 has thrown the Lean Condition code twice now in the first month ownership. First both banks, then left. The dealer told me they found a TSB for '07s (but not '08s) that indicates there are holes in the airbox that can cause this and that they should be plugged. My dealer has done this today and I'm picking it up tonight. I've found references to injector calibration for this condition, but we'll see....
