I have searched and searched for any info or photos of a coolant passage plug for the top of the LS7 head. The hole is supposedly from the casting of the head. Anybody have any info and/or photos?
The dealer says that's what they are waiting on for the past two days on my '09 Z06. So far all the photos I have seen of the LS7 heads I don't see plugs single use or other.
It is the very same plug that is on the standard LS2 engines. However later 2007 and up heads has a tiny freeze plug in the rear of each head that plugs the coolant passage. Apparently GM figure out that they can use this small freeze plug in place of the standard bolt on plug and save a few cents. This basically makes each head a lefty or a righty or you can choose to remove the plugs and install the bolt on plugs.
I see the freeze plug on pictures of other LS engines. Like mentioned, some yrs may be different so it only shows up in some pictures. But it looks like a basic freeze plug. Have they checked a local machine shop? Or one of the LS builders like Katech. I'll bet somone at Katech or Lingenfelter or .... could say oh yeah we use this - and ship one out if the dealer cant get one.
Thanks guys, they did email me a little while ago and said the part came in late yesterday, and it's ready to go. I looked at several photos and I didn't see any plug holes. I had assumed it was a freeze plug style plug, but I couldn't see any holes in the photos. I wasn't sure if they were stalling me what. They've had it since the 4th, it's been in their possession longer than its been in mine.
I also had them set the alignment to the center of the specs while it was in there. I'll have to wait until I get there and see the before & after printout.
