Default Cam Suggestions?

OK I will admit I know nothing about cams.

I am looking into getting one for my car. I definately want the cam to be heard (I have B&B bullets) but I dont want my car to surge forward like crazy like some of these cars I see at shows.

What do you guys recommend? Car is street driven and I want to keep it that way.

Thanks
JOHN

I have been in the cam search for the past few weeks and after talking to few people I am going to go with 234/234 .620/.620 114 LSA. My car is a 08 LS3 6 Spd Manual.
This setup will be good for a car which is daily driven.

Contact one of the many vendors. Many will go over your current and future goals and custom grind one specifically for your car.

Go with a proven cam. Know-it-alls 'specing' cams that have never been in an actual car isnt going to be right the first time when proven cams have been the result of actual installs and tweaked to the porfect result.

As a matter of basic statisics, All the most common successful cams have not been single pattern (same intake and exhaust lobes such as the suggested 234/234 cam above). The best proven cams have a few degrees split on the durations such as a 232/236 114+2. The 234/234 114LSA suggested above shows a 6450rpm peak on Dyno Sym software so the cam would need to be installed 2 degrees advanced to get to 6300 and fill in the low end more. Peaky cams like that make good high end at the expense of low end. Keep in mind that the OP is going cam only and wont be bumping the compression to make up for such a late intake valve closing point.

A 234 intake lobe and a split duration is very close to one of LG's proven cams...the G5X3. I suggest you buy it from them. The OP has an LS3 and the heads historically have responded better to split durations.

I love this cam in my '08 vette: 224/228 .580/.588 lift 114 LSA Comp CAM.
Nothing crazy, no surging what so ever and making 500+ HP with headers and CAI. I agree with Spin, having a little deiiference in intake/exhaust makes for a nice CAM, at least in my car.

Our most popular C6 camshaft is our Stinger Camshaft. 224/230 113. It is an excellent camshaft and we have run many 11 second passes in several customers cars with it. It makes excellent average horsepower throughout the powerband. I also has excellent drivability. This camshaft will normally dyno 430-445 rwhp in C6's. Check out this cam in action.

Check out Comp Cams Xtreme LS Series line -They offer a "mild" cam w/ strong low end torque, good gas mileage and a "noticeable" difference over stock I'm quoting the add, I'm looking to purchase this one myself w/ a complete Comp Cams valvetrain upgrade kit, roller rockers etc.

Oh! I do not believe it requires any special tuning after install

I would do a custom dyno tune on ANY cam change. it will help you get the most from the new cam.

Please post your dyno sheet and/or numbers. Do you have an auto or manual?

3/4 race cam and double bump heads man.

You old school hot rodders know what I'm talking about. Yes, it's a joke.

Will this work with three 97's for a street machine?

Cams are like women; Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....well, sort of....

There are many, many choices out there. You should look, listen and if possible drive a car with a cam you are considering. Peak power is not that important on a street car.

It also depend on what other mod's you have or plan to make.

I chose the Lingenfelter GT-11 cam because I wanted a stock-like idle with no loss in low rpm power. This cam has a very short duration but a very high lift to work well with the ported heads. Some call this a "cheater" cam because it has such a smooth idle. But this cam requires new high lift valve springs so you need to consider that in your budget.

I got exactly what I asked for but that may not what you want.
