Default Cracked bellhousing

well this weekend i was looking for some 11.1s 11.2s and it just wasn't in the cards. I launched the car like i have all season and buddy did it hook like you wouldn't believe. One of my friends down at the line said the front was up well i felt good boy for about 5 feet then i heard a hellacouis noise and lost power. well after i got pulled off the track the car wouldn't turn over so we figured i just granaded the clutch....Nope the bellhousing is in pieces(exaggeration) and part of it just wedged between the starter and flywheel is why it would turn back over. Oh Ls7 clutch looks good after a long seasonof 4000rpm launches on Drs and ETstreets.

How does something like this happen? Thinking about he forces involved, it would appear the tq tube would have to "rotate" upward causing the cracks. One would think something else would have grenaded before the tq tube could rotate enough to crack the bell housing.

Dude you gotta have wing nuts on that undercarriage as many times as you have had it apart recently!! What's scary is I launch at 5k! You and my poor buddy must be racing to see who can get their drive train in and out quicker - he's on his 4th trans in a year and he can get that thing R&R'd in 2 hours now.

I bet one of your broken rears stressed the bellhousing by allowing more twist than designed and it finally let go as the weak point in your system...hmm...maybe you should downgrade your tires! LOL I spin when I try to launch too hard.

Glad to hear the ls7 clutch looks good still. What kind of power are you putting down?

I've seen it when people use bolts to try and force the bell housing on. Stresses the housing and it will eventually crack. Breakin stuff is fun.

These cars absolutely suck on the drag strip. Sorry, I said it. I love my car. But god is torturing me. I have a 700 horse car that I can't launch. Its like having my naked wife in a glass box. I understand what these cars were built to do, and they do it well. I'm just disappointed the chassis can't take more abuse.

My 69 Chevelle and its puny 10 bolt would take 5000 rpm launches like a trooper. When and if it broke I knew there was a CHEAP fix with a 12 bolt or even a 9 inch. There is no hope for us.

Somebody give me a nodular iron case, a friggin drive shaft that is not held together with rubber washers, and some dang axles.

Good lord, enough is enough.

Poor Stage has broken everything at least 5 times I know tooling cost vrs. demand is such that this can't happen without the parts costing thousands. It's just sad.

Oh, p.s. I'm not mad at GM like so many others are. Their car works very well. I'm just disappointed such a beautiful piece of machinery can't be modded like the ole days. I need a 98 Camaro.

Does someone need to start using a torque wrench when assembling?
