I think they're illegal but I can't remember. And I'm pretty sure that most LEOs use radar which is illegal to jam for sure.

I have a passport srx and it seems to work pretty good. Its rare but its happened about 5 times in 6 months where it starts going crazy saying laser shifting on the display.

I have the escort shifter (same as the one the srx uses, but it interfaces with my 8500).
It absolutely works and is 100% legal. I didn't believe in them until I was at a car club meet and one of the members who is a cop let us play with his laser gun and demo'd it for us. My friend had the shifters and he could not get a reading off of him. Don't know what they use around you, but here in atlanta, a lot of laser, so its been real effective. Saved me twice for sure.

I have the Laser Blinder M20 Extreme on both my C6 and my wife's ML350 and it does work. Has saved me twice on the NY Throughway. I'm sure that with the speed I was going, and the fact that there was no one near me, that the State LEO got a clear shot at me. The alarm went off and then the jammer goes on automatically. You should slow down fast then turn off the unit so the LEO will get a reading and not suspect you jammed him. My Escort X50 also went off at the same time the Laser Blinder activated. They are legal just about everywhere, but I'm guessing that if you get pulled over and the LEO spots the unit, that they will find a reason to ticket you for something.

Bel Pro Remote Plus has saved me a number of times. I trust it so much I put one in my 335xi.
About half the price of K40.

I did a search and see that one of our forum vendors has the m25 on sale.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-p...r-100-off.html I did not see any negative comments about any of the brands so I think I will order the m25 and once installed I will post what I think. Thanks Paul

Default More Info

I looked up all five of these on the internet and not sure which one to choose. It looks as though they are either a radar "blocker" but not a radar detector. Is this correct? Short of calling each mfg does anyone know which one detects, blocks, and is portable. I would want a portable unit to move from car to car - is that possible or are all the "blockers" permanently installed?

Thanks

Default My Neighbors?

I see blinderxtreme is located in Palm Beach Gardens about 15 miles from me. Do you have an idea on price? They also show a "25" and "45" series - I assume the 45 is the better unit but is the 25 sufficient?

Do not be fooled that you have a sleek vehicle. Laser gets the primary reflection off the headlamp reflectors, and the projector units are particularly effective at focusing and returning the gun's energy.

BTW, laser energy, for now, is regulated by the FDA, not the FCC, so it and laser devices remain legal. Some states have declared laser jammers illegal, but they are legally on shaky ground, since the feds make it legal, and they would be jeopardizing the legality of LEO use of laser devices on motorists.

I believe they are all permanently installed, as the actual jamming units need to be near the reflective surface being shot at. I like the Escort because it integrates with the 8500 and uses it for its display, plus it powers the radar detector, so there is only one cord. Can't move it from car to car though.

I'm thinking the escort one is 350 uninstalled, but installation is pretty easy.

Default By George (I think) ive got it!

The Laser Blinder for instance will simply "shield" the radar from either bouncing back or using the headlights (or whatever) as a mirror from which the beam would bounce back to the sender. It is not a "Radar Detector" but goes one step further by blocking it. With this said is a common radar detector really needed? Will the common radar detector pick-up on radar activity not neccessarily pointed at your car but another? Secondly, will the "common radar" pick up that "activity" at a longer range than the Laser Blinder?

That does sound good. I will call Radar Blinder and Escort and post my findings.

It sounds like you don't understand the difference between laser and radar. They are 2 different technologies used to measure speed.
Some radar DETECTORS also detect laser. A laser BLINDER detects laser and also jams it.
Radar JAMMERS are illegal, Laser jammers are not, except maybe in some states that radar detectors are also illegal- I'm not sure about what states, if any.

I believe that the difference between the Laser Blinder M25 and M45 is that the 45 has four detector/laser generators (2 for the front and 2 for the back). From what I have read laser guns must be stationary when used, as a result I figured that doing the front is enough since I would have passed the LEO before he can "shoot" me from the back.
Also, the Laser Blinders must be positioned relatively close to both the headlights and the front license plate (if you have one) because those areas are where the LEO aims the laser gun to get maximum reflection.
Further, the laser Blinder only detects and jams laser, they do not detect or jam radar! That's why I also use an Escort X50.

Drive down and visit Leon at Blinder USA. He can demo the systems to you has he has all the latest laser guns that the cops use. You can personally witness how well it works.
