I have an 07 manual convertible. When the car is not running, gears shift fine. When the car is running, I press the clutch pedal and about half to three quarters down it makes a noise similar to grinding and it won't go into any gear. I tried the Ranger method of replacing the fluid two or three times. No change. I pulled the drivetrain, separated the torque tube and removed the clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder. Disc and pressure plate looked fine. I checked the travel on the slave and it seems fine. I REINSTALLED everything and just got the car back together. I bled the slave cylinder 2 or 3 times to make sure I had no air and tried the clutch. It's doing the same thing! Any ideas?? I'm pretty discouraged right now. Anybody else had this problem? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
With the car running, not touching the shifter, press the pedal. Like I said, about half to three quarters of the way to the floor it gives a noise that sounds like grinding until you get to the end of the travel and then the noise stops shortly before it gets to the floor. It then makes a slight, but similar noise when released. I will also say that it only makes this noise with the engine running not when it is off. The shifter will not engage when running and the clutch pedal is pressed. When the engine is not running, I get no noises when pressing the pedal and the shifter goes into every gear very smooth as it should, including reverse.
Not that it may help but this car has only 8k miles on it. I really don't want to tear this car down again so that's why I need to explore every option I have. Anybody else got any ideas on a fix for me?
Pedal feels normal. If I try to start the car in gear with the pedal pressed, the car lunges forward like I don't have the pedal pressed at all. I just came back in from trying to get it freed up. The clutch seems to be trying to do something toward the bottom of the travel as it should but it's still making the noise. Still not going into gear although it seems to try a little better than before. I've pumped the pedal well over 100 times. I checked the fluid before I started. Level was good and fluid is brand new. I checked again before I came back in and there were some air bubbles in the reservoir. Does that indicate air in the system or just fluid recirculation?
Just by reading the symptoms, it sounds to me like the clutch is not fully engaging the flywheel when the pedal is pressed. Like the flywheel isn't being fully retracted to allow for gear change.
I'm no mechanic, but I suspect something in the clutch pedal or hydraulic line is not fully actuating the flywheel.
Is the clutch fluid resevoir at the proper level? Sorry, just saw the note about fluid at the proper level.
not that i,m aware of. low cost shot gun fix....replace master cylinder
Yes it could be bleed without tearing it down, carefully put your hands up to the bleader and loose it, I am assuming you got a lift, if having problems just drop the middle pipes.
