I recently purchased a 2005 C6 with a 6 speed transmission and am disappointed with the shifter, which I find to be sticky and sloppy. As such, I am considering replacing it with an aftermarket, short-throw shifter and would appreciate some opinions/advice on which ones work best. I see several different makes offered by the various manufacturers (e.g., Hurst, B&M, Calloway, etc.) but would like to know which one others have tried and were satisfied with. Also, I would like to know how difficult they are to install, since the transmission tunnel appears to be unacessible from underneath.
I installed an MGW shifter last Saturday, for a DIY mechanic like me it was easy to do. The difference in feel is very noticeable, the shifts are shorter, more precise. You need a bit more force to shift through the gears, but after a day or so you don't notice that anymore. All in all a very good mod.
By far the most popular shifter for the C6 on this forum is the MGW. I have one an love it. Very easy to install from the top side. Remove the center console and there it is. No need at all to get under the car as all work is done inside/under the console.
I also have a 2005 and I didn't like the stock shifter. I installed a B&M
in about one hour. They kit came with excellent directions and lots of Pictures. Now I can hit 3rd every time.
Its funny, over the years I have been here everytime a new shifter comes out its the got to have flavor of the week. Last year it was the Breathless shifter now its the MGW. They are all so damn close. It seems as more come out little tiny improvements are made so the MGW might be the "most Improved" at this time. I plan on trying a few different ones in my 05 to see how the different shifters perform. I'll tell you one thing, get rid of the shifter mount rubber bushings! They suck, mine were gone after only 28k miles on my car. See my post in this section for more info.

I've been using MGW shifters since 2003 when I installed one in my SVT Cobra Mustang.
I installed an MGW in my new Z51 when it was less than a week old and never looked back. Some complain that the MGW shifter is a little too stiff, and I suggest they do a few sets of pushups each day
