Default Something wierd happen with my corvette

Hi Everyone,

I have an 08. Last weekend I was in Grand Prairie Tx, I stopped at a gas station. I get off the car go into the gas station then back to the car. The doors would not unlock. I kept on trying and trying until I finnaly was able to open the door and get in to the car. Now in the car, my fob is not recognised. So im there locked in the car, no way to get in, I was afraid to open the door with the emergency handle because of the alarm. I called Onstar, they were able to UNLOCK me out of my car. I thought that maybe the battery on the fob went dead, so I have my friend get my other fob from my house wich is about an hour away. When he gets there, fob #2 doesnt work either. So i end up calling road side assistance to get my car towed to the nearest dealership. three hours later the tow truck gets there. beacuse the car is so low I was afraid they were going to damage it if they got it to the tow truck. So I tried again, noting. A couple of minutes later I try it again and WAM it works . This is how I spent about 5 hours at a gas station in Grand Prairie.

PS.
I took the car to the dealership in waxahachie and nothing wrong was found with the car...any ideas?

Hello,

How about the radio transmitter at the gas pump that relays information to the gas station attendant interfering with the cars key fob receiver.

I have noticed that at some gas stations the radio transmitters at the pump put out a bunch of hash noise that interferes with my amateur radio equipment in my truck.

If the Corvettes receiver was swamped with noise from the gas pumps transmitter it is possible that the Corvettes receiver could not hear your key fob.

Your best bet in this circumstance would be to place the keyfob on the window of the drivers side as close to the glovebox as you can and hope that the Corvettes receiver will hear the key fob.

Plan B would be to use your key to access the trunk and get in the car that way, if the alarm goes off who really cares.

Good Luck,
Douglas in Green Bay

Did you try the FOB in the glove box slot?

GM put out a Technical Service Bulletin concerning a condition, similar to what you describe, that affects 2008 Corvettes within a certain VIN range. Here is the TSB:

You waited 5 hours sitting down inside your car because you were afraid of setting off the alarm???
Why not just open the door and pull the battery cable if it did go off?
And did you try the spot in your glove box? The FOB works in there even if the batteries are going dead.

Radio interference is the likely cause.

I had a dying garage door opener receiver that jammed fob reception in my own garage! Whenever the car was in there, getting the doors unlocked and the car started was hit-or-miss. If the car was in the driveway, everything was fine.

I switched off the breaker to the door opener and the interference went away immediately. That made it easy to diagnose; otherwise I'd still be unsure of what was causing the reception problems.

The next time you're at that gas station, see if it does it again.

Same problem at a gas station with my 08. After about 10 minutes I got into the car, after twenty it started right up. In the middle of it all I tried to call On Star to help. At first the phone was in the car so I was really stranded. On star was totally useless (No-Start). It never happened again, although I did replace the battery even though the first one was still good. I'm glad this thread is up so others can see, although it won't help when you're stuck.

Umm... I understand the fob isn't working, but... you're INSIDE the car... why not press the 'unlock' button on the door?

Try it some time. It won't work. If you're in the car, and there is no FOB (same as no FOB detected, I assume), you can not unlock the car. You're locked in. Which IMO is dangerous, in addition to being stupid, and annoying.

The OP explained why he didn't use it and if you're locked in the car why should you have to?? That's BS IMO. An anyways it's still an annoyance b/c after you use the emergency release, you frequently then have to re-index the windows. Also, most "passengers" don't even know the emergency releases exist.
