Default I May Have Scewed Up My Z06 NPP Exhaust

I bought a Borla X-Pipe and had it Jet-Hot coated. I decided to have the stock over-the-axle muffler pipes, just up to the muffler, Jet-Hotted at the same time as the X-Pipe. When I picked the pipes and mufflers from Jet-Hot I noticed that the exhaust tips were discolored. I asked about it and they said, oh, that's because we heat everything up to 650 degrees.

Now the NPP actuators don't work with the Mild2Wild remote. It looks like the left one tries, but doesn't move the flapper. The right one doesn't seem to move at all. I was wondering whether anyone knows if there is a rubber diaphragm inside the NPP actuators that might have melted from the heat of the Jet-Hot process? Any ideas?

If I did screw them up, can the actuators be replaced? Or will I need to replace the entire muffler sections?

Does anyone have a set of 09 Z06 mufflers they want to get rid of?

Thanks for any ideas on what might be wrong with them or mufflers you might have lying around if you replaced your stock '09 mufflers.

Steve

Likely the high heat has melted the internal rubber diaphragms of the actuators and caused them to leak.

I am not sure if you can just buy the actuators alone or if you need a whole new muffler set. A GM part specialist can chime in there.
At worst you may need to buy a used set of z06 mufflers for $300-400 dollars and take the actuators off them since your mufflers are now jet hot coated and probably pretty nice.

If you have a vacuum pump you can test each actuator to see if they will move or if they just leak vacuum.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, there is hope as there have been quite a few used z06 mufflers for sale. Any 2006 - 09 set will work as the actuators are the same.

What about your Electro-Retrofit kit? Sounds like that will eliminate the need for the vacuum operated actuators and replace them with electric actuators. Is that a solution for me?

I would go back to company that did them and make them pay for damage, they should have removed the actuators if they were installing the complete system in the oven. Also they may have warped something in the tips so you can easily pop off the actuator rods and see if they move freely

Mostly people just have the header coated and leave the x and on back alone. It's makes the pipes hard to fit together. The rubber surely melted. Get a used set off here!

I would just buy new actuators and replace them. As Rock'n'Blue08 said, the rubber diaphragm is certainly gone.

That would be the logical answer if they were sold separately, but they are not. If they ruined them they should pay for the new system, no one has even confirmed if it is the vacuum units yet

I agree. Make the coater take responsibility. I had a coater crack a set of headers and I damn sure made them pay for a new set.

LG Motorports comes to the rescue. Thanks Bobby for selling me two actuators off from your Z06 test mufflers.

I sent a PM to you, Ed (Pipedreams). The actuators now close the valves when the engine is started, but I'm still having a problem and not sure where to turn next. If you can help me out once you read my PM please give me some advice.

Thanks,

Steve
