I have seen posts about this problem but couldn't find them using the search. My ignition switch on my 2007 MN6 came loose and fell into the dash recently. It was about 2125 miles and 2.5 months out of warranty so the dealer wouldn't fix it free. It cost $107 to fix and the dealership claims they have not ever heard of this happening.
If you have had this happen to you with a C6 or if a C5 has a similar rocker ignition switch, please reply and let me know. I posted here and in General since I am not sure which is the best place for this post. Thanks.
The root cause is the retention tabs on the IP cluster trim plate. Call GM customer service and ask for the dealer's General Motors DVM to get involved. What the DVM says is the bottom line. Yours is not the only case.
Just grab the entire gauge cluster bezel, 1 side(at the switch area) in each hand. Then give it a firm tug towards you. It will unsnap and move forward enough to reach behind it and snap the switch back in.
Then, just snap the trim back in
107 bux..WOW..mine did the same thing when i let my mother in law drive it..she pushed it through the hole...she was freaking out..i jus pulled the dash off and pushed it back in..been fine ever since..
