Was in Walmart yesterday and the choices of 5w-30 (blue label) were Mobil 1 / SUV & Truck ( For hard working engines) or Mobil 1 / Extended Performance (15000 mile warranty). I guess the SUV / Truck would be a better chioce, since I don't go 15000 miles between oil changes?
No, I suggest you use regular, full synthetic, 5W-30. Not sure about extended. Just read the label on back: does it meet GM spec 4718M? If it does, ok. If not, don't use it. I know that the regular 5W-30 Mobil One does.

The SUV stuff has more moly in it, saw it clear as day in a back to backoil analysis on one of my other cars. Higher moly will make things a bit more slipery for better fuel mileage. I didn't notice any significant difference, but I only bought it because the regular stuff wasn't in stock.

es i do as well and does meet spec and is lighter on start up[flows faster]!!!
It's great to see more people realizing the benefit of 0W30 and using it. I live in FL and use 0W30 in all my cars year round. Change is great but some people are resistant to change...there will be people saying it's "too thin" to use year round or in FL. They couldn't be more wrong.

It has been the only oil that my car does not need to be topped off between oil changes also for some reason. Works great for me and does meet GM's Corvette spec.
Really depends what temps you will be running and the highest stress levels the engine will see. You can run 5-30 to 15-50. The high Zinc in (for example) M1 15W-50 is not GM approved because, although better protection for your engine, it hurts the cat converter. So simply choose what you want to protect. There are entire websites dedicated to this.

What are you basing this on? I have a back to back oil analysis from regular m1 to m1 suv on my lincoln showing the moly being the only item showing any significant change. Granted there are many other things that won't show up on an oil analysis. I'll have to dig them out. Would you care to share what hard evidence your have of the differences? I'm not saying your wrong but that is what I know I have seen first hand regarding the difference between the two.
I am interested in the Mb in oil too. Anyone having an analysis, please list it. The only thing I have is M1 15W-50 Mb=90 ppm, Zn=1315. (The darned slipperiest oiliest oil, feels weird in my hands.) This info is very scattered and hard to find. Thanks for any info.

You got me.... I'll have to think about this for awhile. Use what is recommended or your on your own. Mobil 1 SUV has been discontinued so it's not up for discussion. If you think you can tell something conclusive from a couple of oil samples well your a much better man than me.
All I'm saying is everybody is an expert. GM-----The folks that built this car and provide you with a factory warranty want a oil that meets spec #4718. Beyond that your on your own. If your a tribologast and know better go for it.
But before you present yourself as an expert on oil sampling you better go back to school. It's much more involved than "a couple of samples". You need to understand how to interprate the sample results and more moly has nothing to do with benifits.
