PANTHEON SHAKE-UP
Okay, the ZR1 has a few faults: It's still not as supersexysleek as a Ferrari. But never mind. Performance-wise, the ZR1 trumps the 599 GTB in almost every objective category. It's also about one-third the Ferrari's price. Which is to say, Chevy's newest Vette has earned a rightful, exalted spot in the Pantheon of supercars. Moreover, it represents a milestone in the history of General Motors: The ZR1 is the first-ever Corvette without lampreys.
FIRST PLACE
CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1
Outrageous speed, handling, and brakes at a price that simply embarrasses the competition. The new supercar king.
SECOND PLACE
FERRARI 599 GTB
At three times the price not nearly three times the car, but still unmatched in sophisticated speed and sex appeal.
That definition works too I suppose...of course it immediately renounces the 'supercar status title' from the likes of older Ferraris and Lamborghinis that were neither anywhere near 500hp nor all that lightweight.
well yes, the horsepower and weight are going to be the two that change over time due to technology. I based my definition on today's current engine technologies and construction materials.
In short, nobody would dare say an older Ferrari wasn't a supercar in its day, but a modern 300 HP, 3600 pound car just doesn't cut by TODAY'S standards.

True.
Of course a modern day 430hp (or even 400hp), 3200 pound car does happen to cut it quite nicely.
