Default Hi performace Transmission

Okay, I found this company Rock-On transmissions in Texas. They have a Rock on Level 4 transmission (to replace my blown a4 in my 2005 C6 Procharged car. The price is 1895 plus shipping to California. He said he would install it for 400 dollars. Unfortunately I am in California.

Questions

1. Does anybody have any experience with Rock On Transmissions
2. Does anybody know any other companies they would recommend
3. Does anybody know any companies in Southern California that could offer a similar product with similar prices as well as install prices.

Thanks for your help. Sean

Sorry to hear about Tranny. Sorry can't help you with "Rock On" or a company in Ca that could do it for you. However, I was wanting to know about your A4. How much RWHP/TQ are you/were you putting down when it happened? How long did it last? How did it go, at the track, street or something else. Last Good luck on you quest.

My car has 28k miles on it. I drove it pretty hard I would say. Supercharger was installed by A&A but that has nothing to do with anything.

Actually, i dragged it 3 or 4 times. One time it was a private track day so I got a lot of runs in that day.

RWHP 489/454tq on Andy's dyno. 5 pounds of boost only.

Actually, with in the last year, I noticed when I floored it I would hit the rev limiter and it would shut down. That seemed to happen more than I would like. It was like the tranny would not shift quick or hard enough and the RPM would exceed the limit. My tires were getting bald so I replaced those with the firestone firehawks. I thought that would fix the problem but it did not.

Then recently, I bottomed out one too many times or ran something over on the freeway and I discovered the tranny drained out. But I noticed that pulling out of my driveway the next day, when I saw a big puddle. I think one of the lines severed or something. I brought it to a collision and repair shop because there was underbody damage and somebody I know runs the shop. The front sits so low that it is really hard not to bottom out even going really slow. Any way, got it back, everything seemed fine. Then a month or two later, my wife calls me and says the car says reduce engine power. I thought that was weird, as she does not come close to hitting high RPMS. Then a week later I drove it and noticed the tranny was slipping pretty noticeably. The dealer service center told me I have no 3rd gear and their is clutch pad material. They only took off the pan. It is still driveable, just revs higher than it should. Not sure if the leakage somehow was related to the problem, or if it was just wear and tear from all my bursts of acceleration. Any way, this Rock On company seems to have a solid product and an upgrade. I thought it would cost way more than I am being quoted, however, the dealer quoted me 1100 to install the tranny where as Rock On quoted only 400. However, they are in Texas and I am in Southern California. Have some friends that know people so I am pulling my car from the dealer to see what is the best way to go.

So to make a long story short, not sure what led to my problems, but since I have a Supercharger, most people will say that was the culprit and I can't say I disagree.

TmRoc, FYI, Rock On is in Denton TX, just north of Dallas the owner Dave told me. Their website is www.rock-ontransmissions.com Click on products, that Rock On Level 4 is what I am interested in. Seems very affordable and pretty kick ***. He said it would handle up to 700 horsepower.

You had a lot of issues that affected the transmission but since it didnt give out at the track under max conditions I will bet the power had nothing to do with it and the bottom out and fluid loss was the issue.

RPM transmissions has quite a following. I dont hear 100% good news from other forum members but then Id rather get a transmission from a guy that had 2 falures in 50 transmissions than buy a trans from someone with no failures with no sales on this forum.

A trans swap is no big deal on this car but labor would have to be paid twice if you pick the trans builder and use a separate installer that didnt get you the unit. Do yourself a big favor and get the trans swapped by a tuner using the trans builder of choice. If the tuner is sourcing the trans for you and it fails, they have to do it all over again on their dime. You have to understand that all transmissions are failed exchange units and wont always be fixed. Sometimes the thing fixed wasnt the cause of the failure, it was just the symptom.
Good luck with the repair.

once again, RPM has built transmissions for some of the quickest/fastest late model Corvettes out there.
Rossler is another reputable option.

I do like that $1895.00 price from Rock-On though but only if it's an equally solid/reliable build.

At this price point I can save you the searching and send you to our local trans specialist - They do top notch work, fully understand the performance aspects of our cars and warranty everything.

They aren't a sponsoring vendor here so please call me or PM me and I'll forward their information.

thanks for all the responses and advice. I am in the process of contacting RPM, but also talking to the guy that repaired my car originally to see if somehow I can add this to my insurance claim. The tranny leaked when I hit something on the freeway, I did not notice it to the next day. 2 months later my tranny fails? Could be related. I also have insurance on that supercharger with the insurance company, but that is probably theft related. Any way, the idea of a high performance tranny sounds exciting, but the idea of having a replacement one covered by the insurance compay is an offer tough to refuse.

As for A&A, I like them. But do they do Tranny work?

Merry Christmas, I will keep you posted.
