Corsa Sports and NPP are quieter. I had a similar problem running GHLs and went that route (first Corsas then NPP from a C6 Z06)

The 2008 NPP mufflers are not the same as the Z06 Mufflers. The Z06 mufflers are too quiet in the open position but the the 08 NPP's are just about right; that is why I modified my Z06 mufflers to be louder in the open position and very quiet when closed

No. The NPP muffler and Z06 mufflers are different. NPP has 2.5" inlet for Non Z06 cars. Z06 are actually quieter. Concept is the same and actuation is the same.

I drove a 07 Z06 with the NPP mufflers open the other day, and it actually sounded quieter than my 04 Z06 with stock mufflers.

FWIW, I have the 08 Z06 NPP on my C6 I bought off a member here. For me, it's just right and probably a little louder than the others in OPEN mode since I've got LT headers. When the baffles are shut its very quite.

Blown34, what did you do when you "modified your Z06 mufflers" to make the louder?

I like my NPP's a lot more than a friends Z06 mufflers. The Z06 mufflers are way too quiet in the open position.

Default I love my stock mufflers with QTP cutouts

Here's a copy and paste from my thread with more info there, including dyno sheets. The cutouts are worth about 6 rwhp/tq across the board once I added the cam. They have been a great mod for the nearly 2 years I've had them. One of my favorite mods as a matter of fact as I like being able to be whisper quiet or outrageously loud. And at $400 they are cheaper than the NPP's.

This was his first C6 and he found a great place to put them and made the custom mandrel bent Y-pipes to maximize flow from the cutouts. We found no way to put them right after the collectors but they fit well by the trans. I have the DTE brace too but it wasn't in the way.

Installed the wiring myself along the drivers side rocker panel, behind seat then out the wheel well under the carpet. Removed the rear inner fender and drilled a small hole in the wheel well then ran the wire down to the cutouts. Hardest part is finding a hot wire when the ignition is on on these C6's. I ended up tapping the seat heater fuse as others here have done.

They are loud and DEEP when open at idle. I've actually heard louder exhaust though, I was kind of surprised they are not louder. I think it is because of the turn downs and the fact that I have cats and the pipes are pretty long before the cutouts. On the track they have a nice race car sound - I'd say like Borla Stingers plus 25%. When you open them at a stoplight you will turn heads, that's for sure.

Overall extremely happy with the mod, it gives me quiet during my morning drive but loud when I'm at the track which is what I wanted.

Here is a video of idle with cutouts open and closed. The gain on the mike makes the closed sound much louder than it is, it's really quiet with factory mufflers even with my cam.

Here are some pics:

Both 2008 NPP's and Z06 mufflers have 2.5" inlets, it's just that the Z06 3" pipe tapers doen to 2.5" at the mufflers

CF member 426 hemi posted a detailed description of how to modify the mufflers to about 30 per cent lounder when open, but quiet when closed. I did mine last week and have another set listed for sale in the "Parts for Sale" section under F/S Modified Z06 Mufflers

It's easy to change girlfriends, but also pretty easy to change the exhaust tone with the NPP's and the M2W controller (if the girlfriend is a keeper). Good project that won't cost a lot of $ and is an easy back yard mod. Open, it not overbearing at cruise, but screams big time at WOT. Closed, it's as quiet as stock. I've had mine for several months now and still get quite a kick out of it. Highly recommend it.

That sounds like a lot of valve overlap on the duration. What are the specs on your cam and is that an LS2 or some other beast under the hood?
