Well, I've developed an exhaust rattle on my ZO6 exhaust. I was just plying with a check valve and some rubber hoses and I noticed that when it is completely shut, that the rattle is gone.
It has this marble sound at around 2400 rpms and is especially prominent on decel.
My car is not an NPP equiped car, and so I have not actually closed the exhaust before today besides shutting them by hand for a second or two to show my friends how cool my exhaust is (that I couldn't use lol)
Is it possible that something is messed up with the actuators? What else in the muffler could create a rattle?
Just for others' benefit-- the passenger-side NPP muffler on my 08 started buzzing after about 4.000 miles (it was LOUD).
Dealer replaced under warranty for a broken internal baffle.
I'm at 7,000+ miles and now the drivers' side is buzzing. I'll get this one replaced at no cost as well, but given the cost of these mufflers I'm not encouraged about the cost of future replacements now that I'm almost out of warranty.
Something must have been fouled up with their manufacturing process...
Thats the rattle I was refering too in my previous post.
I bought z mufflers and when I added the switch I noticed that in the closed possition they rattled. I had to replace a muffler and it got better but was still there. The other one was bad too! I had this issue before with my other car. These mufflers might not be worth the head ache.
I am experiencing rattle from one of my ZR1 muffles as well. They are not under warranty anymore. Does anybody know if an internal rattle of this kind can be repaired when the exhaust is opened?
I had similar rattles with NPP muffs. I think you have to peel the muffler case back to get to the bulkheads for repair. I gave up and found some Corsa Sports in the parts section. My experience welding thin metal like that hasn't been good. Didn't want to fight it. Pleased with the Corsas.
I opened up one of my rattling mufflers and found the "stuffing" black! I pulled it out and cant see sheet wrong inside, but I know that it rattled like I had "just married"written on my car... Lol aaand the stuffing shouldnt be black, right?
